I had true duals on 2-two chamber Flowmasters on my streetported 12A.

I drove a block and turned around. Okay db at idle, but extremely loud during acceleration.

I would suggest a 3 chamber.

The Flowmaster mufflers can't handle the rotary engine's exhaust. I know two people who didn't listen, and installed the Flowmasters anyway, and both of them blew out the baffling welds in less than 2 weeks. They may work better on a turbocharged rotary, but personally I wouldn't bother. Flowmasters work great on V-8's. :)

As far as I know, Flowmaster doesn't make a muffler for rotary engines. I don't think they would list rotary engine applications for their products since they would be replacing them every two weeks, and that's not good for business, LOL. The only Mazda vehicles they list are Mazda piston-engine trucks. Which model did you think was for an RX-7?

OK....I had an Edelbrock RPM muffler I was running after the cat as a pre-silencer of sorts before the axle. The 2.5" exhaust tube then went over the axle to a custom "Y" splitter that had two 2" pipes as outlets. They went into two 3 chamber Flowmasters. The Flowmasters survived easily in that spot. Big RP of Garland, TX (Think Ari Yallon, who built the engine...) streetport 12A with JDM housings and a custom 2" primary "header" made beautiful low, then mid-tone roaring music with that combo. At idle, you could talk normal and hear clearly. At 6500 to 8000 rpm, that exhaust tone would make the hair on your arms stand up, it was so beautiful, especially around underpasses....

That is a true experience, not hearsay or "I heard it from a friend..." crapola....

That combo also passed TX emissions and made 135 HP on the dyno with a bone stock Nikki carb in pathetic tune....

Think of it this way, if the heat of your car screws up the Flowmaster, there is a warranty and you get another. I have a Header witha a Flowmaster and a resonator, and it sounds excellent. I get a lot of compliments. If you want to go cheap, go Flowmaster, but make sure you have some sort of resonator, becasue it will be a lot louder.

I've got an aftermarket header w/ a 40-series flowmaster as a presilencer and a cheapo pace-setter monza muffler at the rear

I like the overall combination. The flowmaster does make some kind of weird resonance at idle though, a kind of low-pitched howl. It turned colors right away (the flowmaster), but other than that I have no complaints.

Does anybody know about the magnaflow mufflers. I was thinking of using one for a presilencer. My exhaust is fairly loud right now and I was just wanting to take the harshness of the tone away.

didn't read any of the previous posts, but i'll add my thoughts, and those are that flowmasters on a rotary sound friggin aweful. Some guy had one on his 85, it was the worst sound ever, the cherry bomb that my GS had on it when I got it sounded better.

Then read the posts, you bum.. ...I loved the sound of them (two of them in back, single Edelbrock RPM muff as a "pre-silencer" after a RT 3-way cat)...no tinny sound...English roadster one octave lower is what it sounded like at idle, I can't even describe adequately the beautiful intensity of the howl at 4500 rpm's and above....good to 7600 rpm on a chassis dyno.....

hmmm, perhaps that setup might sound good. the one I heard was a catless 12a, no header, with one little flowmaster, so tinny/whiny/crappy sounding. ugh.
