isn't that basically a simplified FD twin setup?

Looks neat though interesting concept

I thought FD turbos were the same size.

i'm not really familiar with the fd twin set-up or any twin set-ups really.

the one thing i havent really understood though is how on a twin turbo setup like this is that wouldn't the boost pressure being created by the first turbo escape through the other turbo while the other turbo is waiting to recieve the exhaust pressure? that might be a noob question but im just not familiar with twin setups. the only way i can think to stop that would be with some type of check valve setup or some kind of valve that would open at a certain amount of boost being reached.

You would prob have to have something to reduce the flow to the smaller one to get the bigger to spool. It would end up being a very complicated design if you could actually make it work.

soooo how about this one. lol. (im bored)

I have been toying with this idea for years. the first turbo is something small ohh i dunno... maybe a 57trim 60-1 or something.
the big turbo is something stupid like a 88mm blowzilla...

the small turbo charge air feeds the hotside of the 88mm blowzilla and spools it. the 88mm turbo actually feeds air to the intake manifold and into the motor.

i may be totally wrong but its fun to think that the huge turbo would spool much faster using the 35, 30, what ever psi of charge air from the smaller turbo to spool it. hell i guess you wouldnt even need a Waste gate on the small turbo.... just it it spool what ever it will make.... lol

I wouldn't go that far just yet. I'm sure it works okay with both turbos running but I'd be very interested to known how well the staging works. There are good reasons why every factory sequential turbo set-up uses a bunch of ECU-controlled valves in both the intake and exhaust plumbing.

It does look very cool though.

Isn't that second pic just a "compounding turbo" system?

There's really more efficient ways of stuffing two turbos onto a 13B...
In fact, I think the best design is the simpliest.
Think about it...
One turbo per exhaust port?

you might as well do your set up like this. the bigger turbo would spool faster

i had it like that at first... but at idle the exhaust would exit through the cold side of the small turbo wouldnt it?

i see what your saying but it really depends on if the turbo is moving at all at idle right? because it is then the cold side would be putting out at idle making it impossible for exhaust to come out the cold side. but if it isnt moving you would be right. I'm not sure how it would work. yours would probably be best

another set-up that i thought would be cool was if a turbo was set up with a pulley on the front. but also have something like the clutch on a starter so at idle you could get boost so it wouldnt lag so much and then once you hit a certain rpm the turbo would spool up more and give you more boost. eliminating lag. kinda like a superturbocharger
