Anyone ever break an E-Shaft?

With my might powers of shitty luck I found out today that I did!!

Got my car at the shop right now and he calls me at tells me that in all the years he's been doing this he has never seen a broken one. WHOOOO HOOOOO I love being first!!!!!!!

I gues it sheared right throuth the center area. I guess it started near the oil jet(?) and just halved the the thing. It was still alowing my engine to turn over so that I would get good compression numbers, but it wouldn't go any more.

I'll try and post picts next week if I can.

never heard of it or seen it happen. i wouldn't even believe it until i see it for myself.

why do i still have a hard time believing it? because these e-shafts can easily handle 1000 horsepower. i guess there is a possibility of imperfections in the steel mix but you are very very very unlucky if that is the case, they have an almost bulletproof reputation of taking abuse.

I could only imagine one breaking from improper balance or extreme over rev. Like, you downshifted to 1st at... oh.. 110MPH.

Now, who has broken an apex seal. Don't be shy

i remember ted talking about one of his buddies on the track who's flywheel key sheared off and the motor spun up to 16k RPMs, broke the stat gear and fractured everything in the engine when the rotor locked up against the housing but that is far from daily driving a stock powered FC.

i'm sure it is possible but it is highly unlikely and just unlucky if/when it happens.

Extreme tension on drive belts can cause e-shafts to break, we have lots of space between journals.

Ted's site claimed that snapped e-shaft was due to unknown causes, but was suspected to be due to a dramatic loss of oil pressure.

Yes, that will happen, seeing as the shaft is stuck in the front stat gears.

dunno how it happened. I was just driving it around town not boosting it and it was running great. Stopped at a light, accelerated, not gunning it, and she just died. Oil pressure was quite good at the time and it didn't seize anywhere.

This info is comming from my mechanic who has been working on our cars for quite some time. He is going to take a pic, and (if my current car can make the drive) i'll probably post a pict here in the middle of next week.

this was ours; http://fc3spro.com/TECH/HOF/K2RD/k2rdhof01.html as per class rules it was a stock S5 engine, stock ecu.

eshaft was bad, but not broken.

there was some debate about why it let go like that (you can see the rotors stopped orbiting, and tried to become round)

the likely verdict was the stock ecu's rev limiter, 30 seconds a lap is bad.

the next engine used the haltech, and went to 9400rpm, and its BEAT but didn't blow up

a broken eshaft is not a major concern on a 2 rotor engine. It's kind of a freak occurance.

was in the shop when my old boss got the news that one of his buddies obliterated his flywheel key and spun the flywheel, pretty much taking out the back half of the motor. was on a 1000+ hp 20B
