Warning lights go crazy
First off I got an 89 rx7 gxl n/a. When I'm driving or when it's idling all of my warning lights come on at once (low oil, exh overheat, seat belt, hatch, etc). They do it intermittentantly and it just started happening and has done it more and more often. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this or know what it is. Also when the lights come on my headlights dim slightly and the car seems to surge when I'm cruising. Please help! Thanks.

i'm also gunna say alternator. this sounds a lot like when my alt died on my 88 gxl. i was driving home from a buddy's house when all the idiot lights came on. being a new owner i thought it was just an electrical gremlin, till my car flat out died in an intersection. didn't know i was running off just the batt. swapped in an FD alt and never looked back.

Yes, it's the alternator. The regulator is toast, the B-post connection is loose, or the belt is loose and slipping.

It is normal for all the lights to come on, if the key is on, and the engine is not running, but they should turn of when the engine is running.
With the engine running the Alternator failure warning circuit in the CPU will switch the lights on when the voltage in the car drops under 12 volts. Either your alternator, belts, underhood fuse box connections may have failed. The voltage in the car and the voltmeter on the dash (only in non-turbo models) needs to be above 12.6 volts. If it is below 12.6 volts your alt is not producing enough power to run the car.
You also need it to stay at or above 13.6 volts to charge the battery.
