Another "What the %#%! is this" thread.

So I pulled out the dashboard out of a car, and then went to go match up the wiring for the ignition that I needed to. But it appears I have an extra wire that isn't needed?

Can anyone help me in placing this?

Here it is in the other car that I have, which is what the dashboard came out of. I don't remember unplugging it however, that's the strange part.

That clump of wires connects into the ignition... which I hooked that all up, only to find that I had that one extra wire hanging down...

The plug in question may just be one of the many unused ones on the car. The harnesses are generic so they'll work on all models.

I was told it could possibly be the horn?

My 7 that I drive doesn't have a horn, so that could be why I don't recognize it.

Can anyone confirm this?

It's not the horn. The horn is a single wire. Pressing the button grounds the wire, and the 12V side is under the hood.

If the car has power jumper the terminals and see what happens.

btw, I have one of those dangling un-connected under my dash.
You can probably live without it

Look in the wiring diagram section of the online FSM, pg. 50-115, front harness. There are three or so 2 pin connectors in that area, one of which is the key cylinder light. Compare the color codes on the wires, and you should be able to identify which of the connectors it is.

I thought I told you what it was on Facebook...

It detects the key in the cylinder.

If your CPU is functioning properly, it will beep when you leave the key in the cylinder and open the door. It's to remind you to remove the key.

Where does it plug into? I don't see any open plug.

If it does indeed detect the key in the ignition then it should connect to the ignition switch.
