Another gas gauge problem
I did some searching, but couldn't really find any information on this. My problem is that when I fill my tank up until the pump shuts off, my gauge only reads to 3/4 instead of full. I always fill up when the gauge reads 1/4, because I'm afraid to run it until empty and possibly run out of gas/suck a bunch of crap into my filter and lines. When I do fill it, I get between 8 and 10 gallons into it depending on how low I let the needle go.
After reading the thread in the archives, I've decided that I eventually want to delete my OMP and I want to make sure that this issue will not bring about any problems with the premixing. As long as I stick to the 1 oz. per gallon formula then I should be ok, right? I know that our fuel gauges can be wierd at times, and I haven't come across a thread about this particular problem but I want to see if anyone can help me out with this.

as na5 said, its most likely the float. if you pull the pump and bracket out if th tank, its a little rectangle connected to a skinny long rod that somewhat looks like an "L" from the side. if you bend that down so that the rectangle is level and even with the low pressure side fuel filter (attached to the bottom of the fuel pump). hope this helps

And OP, I've got the same deal with my gauge. One day this week I'll do what TOUCH mentioned and get back to you...

You can find all this info by searching but...
Nah, it's not necessarily the float. It could also be a weak connection from the wires or one of the connectors or the sending unit. You can measure resistance with a multimeter until you find the spot. Then you either need to clean the corroded connector or replace a section of wire. Or replace the sending unit, if that's the source.
Just measure your gas by the number of gallons you fill up with at the pump, and completely ignore your gauge (even if the gauge starts working again). Also search for more info on deleting the OMP before you do it. I wouldn't, but some do.

na5: I wanted to get some input before I go through everything.
TOUCH: Thanks for that info.
pimpdaddy7835: If you could let me know what you find then that would be great.
ericgrau: Like I said, I searched and didn't find this specific problem. The gauge does work and go up and down as it should. It just doesn't go up to full.
I am still reading everything I can on premixing, and it's definitely not going to be something I do tomorrow or next week. And again I fill up at 1/4 tank which leaves room for about 8-9 gallons, so I would measure my premix off of that. I guess I'm just being cautious because premixing is kind of a big deal so I don't want to screw it up.

rxtuner79: no problem
ericgrau: the wiring of the sending unit is also a possibility. but from my experience, 7 to 8 times out of 10 the problem is the float, on any car, not just the fc. its also really easy to check and fix.
