You will probably have to rewire it.

.

The R terminal on a series four is a Switched source of batt voltage. Switched by the key.

The S terminal on a series five is a constant, 24hrs a day, source of batt power.

To me, you'd need to NOT use the present S terminal wire of the series five on the series four alternators R terminal, but run a SWITCHED source of pwr to the series four R terminal.

But hey, go use the present S terminals wire on the series four and let us know how things turned out.

If you are going to switch between series and rewire, why not just get an FD alt?
