My 88 rx7 reaches 1/4 on the temperature gauges when I'm driving.

Sometimes my engine reaches half way on the temperature gauge when I accelerate onto the freeway. How much does your temperature rises when you drive? What does your temperature gauge reads when driving?

Thats pretty darn good. My 87 rides a little above half way with the AC on, even on the highway, and a tenth lower with the AC off.

no the S4, as long as it doesnt go more then halfway, you are good.
On S5, you cant really tell, theres cold, normal, and overheating, which is why aftermarket gauges are a must for a S5.

Highest normal daily use temp I ever got was 210F, and that was in 100F weather 80mph on the highway with my huge *** intercooler blocking part of the air flow to the radiator.

My last FC hit 240' on the aftermarket temp gauge, but the motor was shot and I was ******* it out so I didn't have to tow it home.

The new FC, S4 of course, never goes over 1/3 *knock on wood*. I've always thought that anything under half is decent, but you want it around 1/3 or so.

The thermostat begins to open at ~180F, and is fully open at ~200F. On the stock S4 gauge, this is range is about 1/4 to 1/2. This is the range your should be in.

on my 88 6 port turbo with the stock fan it would climb to 1/2 then when with a 2 speed elictric fan from the quest minivan and now it stays solid at 1/4 with low speed always on. No matter how hard i push the car. Also it doesnt draw much current from alt either. btw im on stock radiator too

^^^I had the same experience w/the quest fan. When I ran some data logs I found that it would stay between 176-184 when running constantly (not exactly ideal), and unless I was sitting in traffic or ambient temps were above 85*, it didn't really wasn't to break 180. Mind you, this is w/ no combining a/c (condenser still in place).

Most of the time I sit just above the C mark on the gauge. According to my Rtek I run about ~175 - 190. I don't think I went over 190 even at the drags last year, but who knows exactly how accurate my stock temp sensor is anyway.

Yeah my stock S5 gauge never moves once warmed up though I have seen 220deg on my autometer gauge while stuck in city traffic on a near 100 deg. day. It normally runs around 195 to 200 in the summer with one of the all metal(brass) radiators. The stock aluminum one ran alittle cooler when stuck in traffic but the plastic tank cracked and JB weld didn't do the trick this time.

Is it the s5 gauge itself that is not accurate, or is it the s5 temp gauge sender? Reason I ask, I swapped a s5 cluster into my s4, and on the s4 cluster the operating temp was at half, and on the s5 cluster, it is also at half...
