Alky Injection (mounting)

I want to know where every body mounts their tanks and how they run their lines.

I don't know about on these cars, but in my friend's Vr-4 he used the stock washer bottle.

Your mounting requirements are going to depend DIRECTLY on what you plan to do with the car. If you dont plan to use it for competition (NHRA, Etc) then you are free to mount wherever.

My tank is installed in the engine bay, so I can be NHRA legal AND not have to build a vented tank.

I'm looking for all around mounting. Some competition, solo, drag, but mostly for the street use.

Well, Then you are going to have to mount it in an enclosed and externally vented box. The lines can be ran under the car, along the fuel lines.

Any recomendations as to how it can be enclosed? Could I just run a vent tube under the car? I was thinking about mounting everything under the storage bins, pump, 2.5 gal tank, and drilling a hole to run the line along the fuel lines.

It would have to be enclosed in a sealed metal box and vented externally to be NHRA legal.

I emailed the smc guy and he said to get the universal kit that mounts the tank in the trunk but to be honest I don't want to do that because of the venting issue. I wonder what he fabbed up for you ???? do you have any under hood pics of the alky system jrat?

The cheap yet effective way...(talk to 1revvin7 for more info on this, and he might be able to build you a kit)

Get a peice of high quality flex tubing as a TID, tap into it, and thats where you inject your alky. I would mount the bottle somewhere in the front bumper.

Why inject before the turbo and IC? Most setups that I have seen, rotary and piston engines, are after the IC. most rotary setups have the nozzle tapped into the TB elbow.

egh i wouldn't do before the turbo. the only time ive seen that done, after 10,000 miles the turbo blades looked like someone had used them to cut rocks. turns out water can do damage to an object spining over 100,000 RPM.

Pre turbo and pre IC are not the greatest ways to do it.

If it's before the IC then the Alky runs the chance of condensing in the IC.

If it's before the turbo then you could potentially harm the turbo. The alky droplets hitting a 180,000 rpm compressor can't be good for the compressor. I would expect pitting and slow deterioration to occur.

He actually told you to inject PRIOR to the turbo?! You know there are studies that proved pitting and other damage to the compressor wheel when this was employed...

No, this was what a customer asked for, and it worked well, apparently. It's super cheap, only takes like 5 bucks in supplies..so, thats what the customer wanted.

This also kept the engine from knocking under 27psi on a big-*** turbo on STOCK INTERCOOLER.

So meh, it worked for this guy. I'm sure theres better ways to do it, but this was the most cost-effective way, and what the customer could afford, apparently.

Adrock, how do I know you? Did you call the other day about a Gt42R setup and 3mm machining?

We've been using injection for over 30 years in the shop, it depends on how much you are injecting pre turbo, how often and how much heat you are generating(thermal shock) for that to be a considerbal factor. And yes I've personally chewed up enough wheels, so I know all about that Not to mention a few of the head engineers at SRT I know have pitched in with some quiet interesting finding on their engine dynos...

And yes I can build a kit if anyone wants for pre/post comp , staged etc...
