airpump question
The 88 RX7 comes with one right, but you don't need it right? So you can just take it out right? Taking it out isnt going to have a negative effect will it? Also where is it and how do i take it out? What does it do?

dude, read everything you can about your car...this forum's a good place to start. You don't HAVE to have the air pump to make the car run, but it's usefull for opening your 5th/6th ports if you have a modified exhaust and don't have much backpressure anymore...

Boosting Again
the air pump is used to force air into your exhaust. and if you haev a cat the if will cause it to clog it up. and for a n/a it is used to open up your 5th and 6th ports. it is easy to take out i think its 3 12 mm bolts and then then belt. people take it off for more room in engine bay compartment and for less weight.

Also a dual pulley on the alternator is recommended so you'll have 2 belts turning the water pump.

yeah you need it or ur cats will clog, which is bad..big loss of power and maybe a fire...if you remove the cats then you dont need it on a 88..it doesnt open the aux ports on s4..but backpressure from the cat does..so if you remove it you have to ficure somethign out...best thing is just to leave it all in there unless you know what ur doing.

if your ports arent working..which chances are they arent without cats..you have about 30% less high end power. ports arent for low end..they dont open until 3800 rpm.
there are many many ways to make them work without cats or airpump. do a search and read up on them. i myself once did a post on the easiest, cheapest way, but there are lots of others.

If you keep them wired shut, then you have a wonderfull low end until about 3500 RPM where the engine falls flat on it's face because it can't get enough air...

SUPERnaturally Aspirated
get rid of the air pump, get the kit from fcstore which comes with the pipe/resonator and acv blockoff and drive mega fast... just make sure you have a few bucks to tip your mechanic so you can pass emissions
