Cool Air pump question

I want to put a cold air intake in my 90 tII but how does that work with the air pump? Can it be removed, what is its real purpose? If it is removed do I just plug the line that fed the air to it? Any imput will help.

easiest idea...but a little extension w/ a hole in it right in front of MAF and run a line to the air pump from that ...air pump cools your exhaust some how ...i know you can remove it not sure what it would do other than over cool your exhaust or something ...i dont know much about the air pump but i know my cold air intake works fine with a extension for the air pump i can add a pic if you dont understand what im saying

Most aftermarket intakes sold for USDM RX-7's include and extra opening to hook up the line to the airpump.

Compare the HKS filter sold for JDM and USDM cars. There is a difference.

The airpump is used for emissions, it pumps cooler air into your catalytic converter. You have the option of removing it and blocking off the ACV, if you don't care about passing emissions or don't need to.

maybe if you combine 50 airpumps together you may achieve 3 extremely unreliable pounds of boost...

go to an auto parts store and just buy a tiny breather filter if your worried about debris.

I'm not sure if I am following the small breather filter idea. Is that if I remove the air pump. Attach it to the end of the intake hose for the air pump? Also does the air pump create much drag. Will I get any extra power by removing it?

No, that's if you were to keep the airpump. You can buy a small filter and put it on your airpump. Rx7.com sells them too.

Talking

I have a Prelude CAI kit on my car. (Modified to fit, of course.)

Just detach the hose running to the top of the air pump and leave it open, or you can stick a filter on there if you'd like. I've been running mine open without any problems.

Cheers,

a breather filter is a tiny cone filter (about 2 inches wide) that slips over the air pump inlet. this way you dont have to worry about modifying the air intake, it will have its own filter. i would recommend you keep the air pump. it just causes issues later on down the road, especially if you end up trying to sell it to someone who needs to pass emissions.
