Air compressor removal

Tryin to remove as much unnecesary parts from the car as possible, ive already removed power steering and everything else on the drivers side of the engine, was thinkin about removing the air compressor on the passengers side of the engine but someone told me it would mess with my idle? I dont see how it would so could someone please say what would happen? I had a rx7 before with no air compressor and it seemed to run fine

Air compressor is a bit misleading.

I take it you're talking about the Air Pump (since you said Pass. side) and are in N.A. You cat especially needs the air pump for emissions, if you still have one (and I presume you do since you're in Cali). If you're talking about the A/C compressor, then that's different.

If it's the air pump you're referring to, and you have to pass California emissions, I recommend against it.

Indeed, unless you plan on putting the air pump back for emissions every year, just leave it installed with the ACV that the air pumps hose runs into.

If you pull the air pump there will be no immediate adverse affects. On the long term however, the cat's may fail prematurely and you wont pass a visual smog inspection if you fail to reinstall it and anything else needed for the air pump to look like its operational.

Yes, the air pump is mostly for emissions, though also on S5 NA's it aid's in operating the aux ports (on S4 NA's, the aux ports are actuated by exhaust gases around 6ish psi.)

kinda what she said.. I had an s4 N/A and it ran beautifully without the air pump. I now have an s5 N/A and without the air pump, it runs like ****. no *****. obviously the aux ports will not open without it. but im also in Minnesota so emissions mean nothing up here.. ha. but in youre case, either way i would just leave it on for emissions purposes. It really isnt a huge drag on the engine..

I wouldn't consider it a drag on the engine at all.

i said it about ten thousand times so far, removing emissions makes the car slower.

yes it will mess with the idle as you have to wire open the 5/6th ports which allows air to bypass the secondary ports and causes a semi rough lower idle.

Your going to need the air pump if you still have your cat, but if you remove your cat, remove the air pump and find a nice smog guy

Hay guys, I found this thing in my engine bay that looks like 2 snails stuck together. Can I remove it so I can show off my passenger-side engine mount to all the ladiez?

Please read up on what things are for before taking the "I want an empty engine bay" approach. It's a bad idea to remove all emissions from a CA car, unless you're in one of the magical areas with no smog testing. The air pump can be removed from an S4 NA, but you will have to do something about the lack of belt contact on the water pump pulley (double sheave alt. pulley or yoohoo belt). You'll also have to put it and the cat back in every 2 years.
