Aftermarket stereo into an FC. How to!

I like to do write ups every once in a while because it's fun and it'll help people out.

Tools you need...

1) Crimping pliers
2) Wire strippers
3) A flat head and #2 phillips screw driver

Parts you need for a single DIN radio...

1) Metra 99-7501. There is a 99-7500 but it is junk, stay away!
2) Metra 70-7901
3) A relay

For a Double DIN radio you need...

1) Metra 70-7901
2) The factory radio brackets
3) a relay

If you get the 70-7901, just match up the wire colors, it's pretty easy. The orange and blue wires are going to be not so straight forward so I'll go through all of them.

1) Combine the blue/white from the aftermarket radio with the blue white on the metra harness, The blue wire is special and requires a relay, we'll get to that. I am talking about the blue wire on the metra harness (kenwood and alpine are a little different, so just ask)
2) If your aftermarket radio has an orange/white wire, connect it to the orange wire on the metra harness.
3)The white, white/black, gray,gray/black, green,green/black and purple,purple black wires just go together.

#3 is the speaker wires positive and negative. In order, front driver, front passenger, rear driver, rear passenger.

So now to the special Blue wire I talked about earlier. You're going to need the aftermaket radios blue white wire (alpine and kenwood are different!) to get the power antenna to work.

I have been an installer for 7 years and the RX7 is the only car I have ever seen with a negative trigger power antenna. You can use the windshield antenna if you want, and it actually works quite well, but that's later. On to getting the factory rear electric antenna to do its job!

So here is how you wire the relay...

1)blue/white from aftermarket radio to pin 86 on the relay
2) Ground pin 85 of the relay
3) Ground pin 30 of the relay
4) Connect the blue wire from the metra harness to pin 87 of the relay
5) the ******* in the middle, 87a, is not used

If you wan't to use the windshield antenna, you need to make an adaptor as you can't just buy one. The female antenna connector behind the stock radio is for the windshield antenna. If you go buy two 3ft antenna extensions, you can do this. You need to cut both female ends off each antenna extension, strip back the outer jacket and solder the 2 mail pieces together. Easy peasy. My factory power antenna is stripped so it would only go up half way. If you use the windshield antenna, you dont need the power antenna.

Boom, you just installed an aftermarket radio into your RX7!

If anyone has questions regarding aftermarket radio installation, 4 channel amps, speakers, subs...please post them here.

basically, yes, the s4 came with various factory amplifier configuration and so did the vert. The specifics of those would need a day and a half to write about specifically, but the basic write up will get you rolling. As far as the various nuances between the various s4 and s5 models, I can answer the specific questions if asked. You'd only need to ask when changing stuff around.

I don't need a stereo...I just hired Rapper 50 Cent.....Fiddy...!
after all he's bankrupt and needs all the money he can get!.
He doubles as a burglar alarm because I leave him in the car!..and trust me..he's wired half the time...(so no need to use the "stock wiring"..hahahhahahahaha!)

Seriously though it's a good write up and glad someone can elaborate on that reverse relay for the antenna.
Thanks JJ..good work!

I'm guessing he's referring to the 2-pin diversity adapter and using the male and female Motorola connections, which are internally connected. Then plugging in a reverse and using the male Motorola of that to the new deck.

Yes, you could do that, but that is the expensive option.

Hey I purchased and Sony XAVAX1000 and I am having trouble installing it. I cannot get the speakers to work and I’m very confused. I connected the wires from the unit to correspond with the function of the wires from the car.
