Aftermarket radio install

Hi I recently got a Sony XAVAX1000 and I am having issues installing it. The unit turns on and everything functions but the speakers do not work at all. I connected the speaker wires that correspond with the wires on the unit. Any ideas on why it is not working? The car is an 1987 N/A.
thank you

Have you checked the wires that connect to the wires themselves?

Is your stock amplifier under the glove box plugged in?

Sorry I’m not sure what you mean but the car has been sitting in a garage for 10 years so I don’t think any wires should be broken or cut.

I will take a look and if it is what would I need to do? I’m am new to audio systems and not even sure what a amplifier does.
