no sound from new stereo..
no sound from new stereo..
I'm trying to install an aftermarket aiwa stereo.. I plugged in the wiring harness. The thing that came with the head unit has a plug and a bunch of loose wires.. I spliced those wires to the wiring harness correctly.. I'm getting no sound from the radio or from CD's.. The stereo comes on and I can play with it and everything but there's no sound.. I'm going to recheck all the wires and redo the ground, but anything I did or didn't do? Also I found out what those two plugs to the right are.. the antenna connection and the motor connection or something. The male plug will go into the head unit, but there's no place for the female plug and the head unit won't even turn on if the male plug isn't in.. what's goin on??
Thanks, Colby

What car is this in? And what type of system was in it before? I had a maxima before my 7 with Bose and the cd player in it went out so I had to replace it. Well I couldn't figure out why I was getting no sound. Everything was hooked up, and the headunit was working. Finally after searching for stuff for hrs on the internet, I discover that the amps built into the Bose speakers need to have some power to "turn on the speaker". Maybe that is your problem, but then again don't know what you had in it to begin with.

Yes as far as I know the Bose components only work in conjuction with each other. If you change either the speakers or the headunit you have to do it all. That BOSE stereo sucks *** anyway.
ok, problem fixed and it was sort of a general one.. for future reference, if anyone else is planning to upgrade their fc's stock stereo, the stock speakers each have amps and you have to bypass them. I'm not sure if it's true for all aftermarket stereos, but my aiwa didn't turn them on..

i'm having the same problem in my fd. I've got a kenwood headunit and upgraded all my speakers with Pioneer and i could turn the volume all the way up and i could barely hear it.
any idea??
I didn't feel like dealing with bullshit when I bought mine, so I caoughed up the extra 40 bucks to get it installed...
Just not worth the hassle if you know what I mean

so are you guys saying there is an amp in the stock setup somewhere that probably wont be compatable with an aftermarket deck, or are you saying that the speakers have amps in them or what?
i ripped out the standard speakers and threw in new ones, and they work fine. there were only 2 wires on each, not 4 like meantioned above. i wanna change my deck now. o btw 89 gxl.
