interesting finds inside the -SE
So I was given a new head unit (Sony with Aux and USB inputs) for Christmas and went out yesterday to install it...
The car had a Pioneer unit with updated speakers in all corners, but the head unit never sounded very good, and no aux input and no ability to put one in either, so out it came.
I found the rear speakers were bypassing the amps (good!), but not the fronts (???) WTH? Not even sure how that could work unless the factory amps can take some wattage from an amplified signal. Additionally, I saw an extra antenna connection. Then another one. Then another one! Plus the one I had unplugged from the stereo. That's 4 (four) antenna wires back there folks. WTH?? That's gotta go.
So I re-did the front speakers easy enough, and then cut and pulled out two of the extraneous antenna coaxes that were in there. That left the stocker in place plus the one connected to the working power antenna I'm running.
I also found cigarette butts and lighters and matches under the rear bins. How the heck did that crap get there? A little rust too (Booooo) Gotta take care of that before it breaks through. I'm sure others have found lots of neat things lurking under there....
I painted the metal surround for my stereo, and then put it all back in. Unfortunately the paint started flaking off immediately and I realized that I forgot to wash off the grease and wax remover before painting. Stupid. But at least the stereo sounds good now, and I got rid of a bunch of wires that didn't need to be there.

Sorry, I didn't take any pics. I will probably re paint the mounting plate soon and try to fit the plastic surround that comes with the stereo.
It was really easy install once I redid all the connections done by one of the previous owners. Run new wires if you have the factory amps so they are bypassed. Taking trim off and such was no problem. I like how easy this car is.
I think I might take out one of the factory amps and see if I can make it to run a small subwoofer or something. We will see....

Haha- I did find some money. Corroded pennies and dimes, maybe a quarter or two. I vacuumed them all up into the shop vac.
I was hoping for enough to do the GM 105 amp alt swap along with FC fuse box upgrade, but alas....
