Aftermarket or Ported (Wastegate)

I have an S4 T2 and was looking into getting my wastegate ported, but someone asked me why I just don't buy an aftermarket wastegate. I looked at the prices and it seemed pretty damn expensive. Wouldn't porting be WAY cheaper?

What would be an advantage of buying an aftermarket wastegate over just porting it to the size you want?

Yes, it is way cheaper to port the wastegate. It's an internal wastegate, so putting on an aftermarket would be more work than it is worth. Or, you could just buy a s5 turbo. It has a better wastegate, and no twin scroll crap.

where in houston are you?

Galleria area of Houston. How much would an S5 Turbo run me? I'm not planning to keep my car on stock turbo, so I don't want to spend too much into it.

Oh since you're in Tomball (Which is close to Houston), do you know any shops that'll do the porting for me?

Don't forget the cost of porting, then again its not to hard to do it yourself. The S5 wastegate is only better when ported btw, so leaving it stock is hardly an upgrade.

With an external wastegate upgrade, not only is it more expensive but using a cheap one is unreliable. Ontop of that you would need a new turbo, and manifold..
