AFM swap question

hey--I have an 86 GXL....does the newer cone-type afm work with the 86-88 7s? someone on eBay is selling a setup to get rid of the stock airbox, and it has the newer afm on it.....just wondering if that would work with my ecu or not

You would have re-wire it, but it is possible to have an s5 AFM on an S4. you wouldn't be gaining any HP though, so it's not really worth it. IMO

I didnt think it would increase my hp or anything, I was just looking at it from a convenience point of view--for like $10 I can get this and get rid of my stock airbox with it. I guess now i will just hafta find out which wires to connect to the newer plug....

You don't need to swap AFM's to lose the airbox. You just spend that money buying an adaptor for a cone filter instead.

I got a generic cone filter and adaptor on ebay for $18 for my s4

I bought the ebay filter, and the adapter was totally useless!! I am making one now. I don't know what that round-to-square thing is supposed to fit but there is no such mount on my '91 N/A vert......

You bought the wrong kit. The adaptor is for 86-88 AFM only. You don't need an adaptor for the 89-91 AFM, you just get a filter with a 2.5" neck and clamp it straight on.

They only sell the 3" filter on ebay.... I turned up a nice plastic adapter so I can hold the big boy now....
