ACV blocked off and now it wont idle

Okay, so I bought this car and it idled fine. However, when he took the smog pump off, he never blocked off the holes that he left. I happened to have a spare plate to block off the AC & CV, so I did that. At first when I started it, it died. Then it idled at 3 grand. Now it's back to not idling. What to do?

Probably have the vac line to the ACV unhooked instead of plugged.

You've got a vac. leak for sure. Get some carb-cleaner, or starting fluid and spray a little bit on where you *think* there might be a leak. If the idle (or whatever you want to call it, lol) jumps or rises, you've found your leak.

Make SURE the block-off plate is PERFECT and is sealed correctly. Also, like Mark said, make sure all your vac. lines are connected correctly (and not cracked or anything).

Good luck,

You would want to avoid messing with any idle screws... (or as they used to be called the $1000 screw, because that is how much labor it used to take to get them set right again).

aight, new development... completely out of the blue it started idling at about 1500. I turned the "$1000 screw" down and it is now set correctly. It just had a two-day sebaticle

You probably knocked the plug to the BAC valve plug loose when you were messing with the ACV. If I had a dollar for everytime I have had a car come in for this.....
