Aas

Im sure the topic has come up plenty before so my internet searching abilities must be inadequate. Bottom line- does the auto adjusting suspension feature really do anything much between that normal and sport mode??? It really seems to be a cool toy to look at...

The car is a purely stock 89 NA

It worked on my '88 GXL, actually a noticeable difference in the twisties.

I found this:
SureShot

The only write up I have seen was in my 87 owners manual. It described inputs from throttle, brake, steering, & speed. The actuators had three settings in two ranges, and all four operated independantly according to the combined inputs. The effect was supposed to be anti-squat on throttle, anti-dive on braking, anti lean on turning, and extra stiffness over 72mph.

Whether or not yours works probably depends on the condition of your car.

I couldn't tell a huge difference between the two settings.
A lot of people actually remove the AAS actuators and adjust it manually to make it stiffer. I tried it too when I had it and noticed a little difference.
Now I adjust my coilovers! : D

This makes sense because the amount of time I spend over 70 isnt much in the scope of things. Assuming it did work- does anyone think it could just be the suspenison? (suspension isnt shot or anything but pretty old)

AAS Details

sure if your shocks are on their way out, as in the orignal ones, then your AAS might not be that noticeable. But here some more info on it anyways:

This is from jack yamaguchi's RX7 book.

Easy way to find out if it still works is to pull the cap off of the shock tower, unscrew the Actuator or whatever that is and have a friend flip the switch, if it moves then it works, if not it doesn't. Mine still works on my 89 GXL, I was quite shocked about that actually
