90 Vert, strange check engine light issue

Recently got engine light on, CAS code, fixed problem, battery cable off, push brake, light gone. Now, engine light comes on only when I'm totally off throttle. No codes, won't reset, but if I barely, and I mean barely, apply pressure to throttle, not even enough pressure to change rpms, light is gone. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance PEACE THE MUTT

Clip an Ohmmeter on the TPS, work the plunger & see if the needle sweep shows any bad spots near 1K.

Maybe shoot some spray contact cleaner in between the sleeve & plunger of the TPS. The inside slider contacts could just be dirty.

A few months ago, my AFM was just about worn out, and for a while it was giving intermittant brief low throttle checks. Spray contact cleaner helped for a few months. It finally died last weekend.

I'll give that a shot. I changed the AFM not to long ago, but I'll check that also. Thanks for the help.

Well folks, this thing is driving me nuts. Only comes on when warm, or when I am shifting and completely off the clutch. But warm, not actually driving, light stays on with or without the clutch engaged, in gear or out.

Still no codes, fluids all good, tested everything I can think of from CAS, to TPS, BAC, AFM, everything I can think of. Have to register in a few months, and this is a auto fail in CAL.

Idles dead nuts at 800, should I increase idle, or maybe advance the timing? I'm lost guys. Any help would be appreciated.

OK - no more guessing - you need to blink the stored codes.

Sorry, I saw your post count & thought you already knew.

Here's what you need: http://www.1300cc.com/howto/how2/codes.html

Also, I have a complete set of factory manuals at the link in my sig.
You may download & print whatever you need.

Sureshot, if you read the original thread, I have already done the code check, many times over. I appreciate you responding and trying to assist me. Still going off and on. Any other ideas?

you know if worse comes to worse and you need to go smog that bitch and it is still doing it you can always just disconnect the idiot lights

i hope you find the problem, hows the clutch?

after that, i would inspect the idiot lights for a malfunction, bad solder joints, bad wires, shorts, and things like that, its obvious it isnt a code problem so i would check there

Any time the check light comes on, or even just flashes, the ECU is supposed to store the code that caused it.
You are grounding the single pole green plug nearest the primary coil - right?

Yes, I am grounding the single green test connector to ground, using the neg terminal on battery. I have been checking for wiring issues, grounds all check out, but still no codes.

And the clutch is working fine, just got that noise still. Lost my job, so money is tight, and so is being able to use the "shop" for fixing stuff. Another issue.

Smog check in 5 months, but I just hate seeing any light come on. Son is soon taking over possession of his car, the 90 vert I am referring to, and want it all good. And yes, he is helping in all of the repairs.

Just an update, and thanks everyone for all the help. Cable to starter vibrated loose -again-, locktite it? I don't know exactly why that wouldn't allow the engine codes to come through, but after tightening the nut, error code came through loud and clear, 12, TPS. Will try and adjust in the am. Thanks again for the assistance.

Spray contact cleaner into the TPS. Carb cleaner will do in an emergency.
Work it in, blow it out.
Then test & set.
