90 vert RPM question

I just bought a 90 vert with the 8000 rpm redline. It's 100% stock and runs good but it really feels like it peaks around 6-6300 rpm. I can rev it to 7000 but it doesn't feel like it's doing much at that point.

A few years back I had an 87 GTU with the 7000 rpm redline and it pulled great all the way to the redline. I eventually put a carb + header on it and removed the secondary throttle valves from it along with the strange things in the exhaust ports during a swap into a very light 87 no power car. It would smoke the tires and never let up from the power right to 7 K.

So...back to this current car, is it just the way the stock engine is restricted with the air box, stock air filter and exhaust or is something possibly wrong? I just set the timing and it does run real good, it's just that it's not pulling the RPM I expected...

-thanks

---I'm possibly thinking the little rotary valves on the secondaries aren't opening. Which way do the need to be turned to be open? If I just unhook the vacuum hoses are they open or closed?

Is there an air pump still on the car?

I would suspect that either the aux ports or VDI are not opening correctly.

Thanks, I looked up VDI and I'd say that since it's about 1000 RPM over where it comes in at I need to be looking there. Is there and easy way to bypass it so it's open all the time?

I looked at the VDI and it moves when pressure is applied. Does it open the port when pressure is applied or close it, it's N/A so I don't know where it would be getting pressure from?

It gets its pressure from the air pump.

At low speed, the VDI valve is closed.
At high speed, the VDI is opened by air pressure from the air pump.

Check out the FSM in the archive. http://www.teamfc3s.org/main/factory...ual/1989_1991/

Welcome to the vert world!

Thanks for the link, it was broken but I got it figured out. ..the car on the other hand just told me it had codes:
12-17-18-33

so it must be the auxiliary ports huh?? also the TPS is setting two different codes hmm...?

I'd say secondary ports.

you dont want it open all the time cause that would destroy your low end power
