88 OMP on 89+ block?

I'm about to start building my motor and was wondering if I can use the front cover and OMP hardware from an 88 motor on an 89+ motor. My goal is around 350+ hp to the wheels and I would like to use a later block but I want the mechanical OMP for obvious reasons.

Thanks,
Mike

You can do it. a friend of mine did that when putting an 89-90 NA motor in an 88, and everything worked out ok.

you need to use the 87-88 front cover on the engine. and then you just need to rig up the thing that opens it.

Save yourself a headache, and just block the OMP off and run premix. Thats what im going to to when I put my 89-91 motor in my TII.

I have seriously considered this and still may go this route. I run premix in my first gen with no OMP and its not that bad. That car is basically a race car with interier. It doesent even have windsheild wipers.
My goal for the 10AE is to be as practical as possible. I'm even going to keep A/C on it. So I think I want to keep the OMP. I may change my mind later.

Thanks for the info,
Mike

I removed the pump from my car and I run premix. It's not a big inconvenience, as long as you're the only one who uses the car and you always pump your own gas.

I was under the impression that if you disconnected the OMP on an 89-91, the ECU would run in limp mode. Am I wrong on this one?

Yes, that's true. I'm no longer using the stock ECU.
