88' FC N/a smells like gas inside

I just recently got another FC. I have a 88 gxl n/a motor. well the cats were clogged up so i cut them off and put on a 2 1/2" pipe in place of them. on my old one i had put on the racing bet cat replacement pipe. It had me removed the ACV and air pump. Now my Question is would replaceing the cats and leaving the ACV and airpump in place have any affect on the motor? Cause i'm thinking that haveing the ACV still on there is causin the gas smell or for it to run rich.

Joe

check to make sure you charcoal canister is still good or even hooked up. secondly..without cats you are likely going to have a gassy smell...so check underneath the carpet behind the seats to see if those holes...about 2.5 - 3 inches are open like something is missing or if they have the fill rubber in them...check in a couple of other places..like underneath the spare tire to see if holes are open...basically...make sure the exhaust has no way of entering into the cabin unless the windows are open...i had the same problem ...fixed now.

i looked at my Pulsation damper as best i could today, and it doesn't appear to be leaking. but i'm probably going to replace it just because i know they suck.

i have a 87 n/a with a racingbeat downpipe presilencer and i still have NOT removed my air pump or ACV and i havent noticed any power loss. The only reason they are still on there is cause i dont know if i want to wire my ports open or not and i dont have a block off plate for my split air return pipe. Also no gas smell after i got rid of my crap injectors and replaced them with new ones.

I was running my 88 n/a with hollowed out cats and after driving in it and entering the house I reeked of gas..and every time i worked around the car as well..I haven't noticed it since a good catalytic converter was installed though..to me,the gas smell was normal..(meant I owned an RX7!!!..LOL)..i have no gas leakage anywhere..and in ending..I've heard that running with cats removed (modded exhaust) will do just that..just my take though..

okay i'll just take it as with no cats i get a gas smell. i'll just have to get a kickass airfreshener.
