'87 TII issues

Hi,
Just bought a mint low km TII that the owner says the engine was blown.
He said one day it started running like crap so he took it to the mazda dealer. He gave them $1200 and they tried replacing a bunch of crap and then later told him it was blown. This dealer has no one experienced in rotarys and has been giving a few people grief whether its an rx8 or rx7. Seems fishy as a compression test should be the first step in their shop and I have a receipt for a brand new Mazda engine 50,000km ago.

Anyways this is the issue. It starts and holds an idle, but revs up quite slow but will rev high. There is minimal smoke even after starting it for the first time in years.
When I unplug the boost sensor plug, it does not affect the idle. When I unplug the MAF, car dies. When I unplug either leading plug wire, car will slowly die.

I will be doing a compression test today as I bought it knowing the engine could be toast, but was more concerned about it not changing when the boost sensor is unplugged.
Any other simple places to check?

The Boost sensor should not affect idle.

Ok that makes sense. There's also a little black box plugged into the boost sensor. Any idea on that? Boost cut?

FCD. Watch using those though. As all they do is trick the ecu in thinking there isn't as much boost as there really is. Not really the greatest way of doing it. But a lot of people still use them so they don't get fuel cut.

Bummer dude. I was going to say check the fuel injector connectors, I had a similar issue when a primary injector connector failed, slow revs, rough idle etc.
