My god, do the engine before the body. also, make sure everything is mechanically and electrically sound. Bodywork should be the last thing done, after you know everything else was successful.

Be sure to include some good suspension in your project, these cars are built to handle the corners.

I hope you plan to get it running before the body work & paint, just in case you run into unexpected problems.

The RX-7 makes a good hobby.

Gatlin added a good point about suspension. engine and suspension are key, also think about swapping in a limited slip diff. if your car doesnt have one. If you put good suspension on your car, it will be the most fun thing you have ever driven IMO.

I'm in the same boat, my 86 GXL was 200 dollars to me.. The thing is, I wouldn't really be asking for MORE help spending your 5 Gs, until after you get all of the normal, 18-year-old-car maintience done, your engine swap complete, and your bodywork and suspension done... after that, the question will likely be, "Should I spend my remaining money on the Number 1 meal or the Number 7 meal at McDonalds?"
