Arrow 6PI and VDI opening late

As far as I know the 5/6 ports are supposed to open at 3800 and the vdi si supposed to activate at 5500. On my car however the 6pi doesnt kick in to almost 5k and the vdi till 7k. I have 2 leds wires tot he solenoid plugs to see when they get power. Does anyone have any idea why this happens and how to fix it? Ill appreciater any insight.

Hmmm. I might be wrong, but I think the VDI is switched by the ECU. So, that one shouldn't change unless maybe your ECU isn't seeing the correct RPM?

And, I am not sure about the S5's on the aux. ports, but I know the S4's use the back pressure from the exhaust. If the S5's don't do that, maybe check and make sure your ECU is getting the right RPM?

Get down to the box and use and RPM gauge and rev, and make sure it is seeing everything correctly.

Also, where are you getting your opening pressure from? Is it from the air-pump? Maybe make sure that all connections are alright. Might not be making enough pressure at low RPM to open the ports?

Just throwing some ideas at ya. Good luck.

On a s5 the 5/6 ports and the vdi are opened by air from the air pump which is controlled by a solenoid. The led's are wired to tell me when the solenoids get power so that rules out the air issue. If the ecu reads the wrong rmp, I dont know what to do. Thanks for the ideas.

So, the LED's are coming on at those RPM's?

The only thing that I can think is that the ECU isn't sending the signal at the right time.

I would really check the RPM signal getting to the ECU. Maybe one of the gurus here will be able to help ya. I am curious to know what the problem is too.

When you figure it out let us all know.

I had a problem with my 6 ports that was similiar. The ports weren't opening and it turns out the ECU stopped sending the signal to the solenoid. I rewired it with a Summit Racing adjustable rpm switch and tuned it to activate them at the stock 3800 rpm's. That's one way to go about solving the issue. You might also try changing ECU's.

The computer opens them based on load and rpm's, not rpm's alone, so you need to be driving at full throttle to get a good indication of when they're really coming on.

The result im seeing are only at full throttle. I was trying to get them to work right for free because the rpm switch setup wil cost me about $100.

are you reading this off the stock tach? it may not be working accurately.
and as mentioned, both the 6PI and VDI operate of both RPM and LOAD.

if your car seems to run properly it would be doubtful that the problem is in the ECU itself. i would check the wiring to the solenoids, and make sure you have proper grounds.

and you should be able to find switches for less than $100:

Well I would need to buy 2 rpm switches, so thats close to $100. I am judging by the safc rmp's not the stock tach.
