the biggest problem with black anything IMO is that black shows all imperfections..

if u have waves, any fiberglass/bondo work it will show, any scratches etc..

and it looks even worse with a flat black paint job!

Flat black seems like it adds small imperfections to break up the shine in the paint and it fades ROCKET fast (I used it on my wipers and trim, and it made it all of 3 months before I had to repaint it) - the RIGHT way to do it would be to use a normal basecoat clearcoat with the same base black you'd use for gloss, but get the matte clear. It'll give it a nice glow instead of a shine - like the photoshop request thread right now in the lounge.

I used satin black on my s5 mirrors however I did what the can said (let sit for 1 week for chip resistant finish)

however I would have a hard time letting the 7 sit for a week since I have no garage to protect it from the weather

why black? they make flat in every color. gray, white, blue, red, silver. they even have clear matte metalic flake paint. go to an arts and crafts store (michaels), they have lots of odd spray paint. they even have stone finish paint. make the 7 look like its made of granite :P

Or you could wrap the entire car in duct tape, like the '82 Cadillac someone at my college used to have. Not a spot of paint was visible.

Oh, and don't paint your engine bay with that Hammered Rustoleum stuff. It comes out just like on the cap, but the cap doesn't show that when you do that to a car it makes it look like you tried to paint it normally and failed.

the only thing to do is get your car painted with a falt color. but get it done at a shop because when you use the spray paint you leave all kinds of nasty lines. a shop will not. trust....i have been working in autobody for 5 years. so just get it done at a shop. if not, all you will be doing is complaining.

How about the John Deere Blitz Black paint. Its a matte black and have heard nothing but good things about its fade resistancy and overall quality from the hot rod guys I talk to.

My current Turbo II is semi-flat black. It's fun to do yourself. Just make sure you know how to handle a paint-can.

yea erik but a lot of people suck at spray painting... there's only a few people (myself included) who make spray paint look like a real paint job.

guys just to clear up

I wasn't intending to paint it MYSELF with a can?!?!

i was going to take it to a body shop to get it done...

that's not the problem...

i just wondered what the car would look like without Clearcoat.. just a flat color of black like a black chalkboard...

is the paint as durable without clear coat? is there anyway to "lock" the paint so that it bonds well and the rocks and **** and the road don't ruin it

is Flat black easier or hardier to maintain (clean)? cuz i live in a pretty dusty climate...
