5th gear problem.

my new 1990 vert grinds into 5th gear, at all speeds, unless you go very slowly into gear u get a coarse grind, as if missing the gear. Big problem? expensive fix? any help would be appreciated.

make sure the carpeting isnt getting under the clutch pedal. if not that it just sounds like the clutch isnt fully engaging.

Mabey your 5th gear synchro is out or going out. If you've ever skipped 4th and went hard into 5th could have caused the problem. thats what happened to my 2nd gear. My two cents.....Micah

sounds like a synchro, you would need to rebuild the tranny, get a new one, or first try and change your tranny fluid and use redline tranny fluid

Yes, when I bought my turbo II, my 5th gear synchro was going out, I did a search on the web and found that it was a common problem, the redline or lucus didn't help me I just bought another tranny cause it was cheap

Im about to purchase an N/A FC with 48,000 original miles on it in close to perfecto condition. The only let back is that 2nd gear grinds and when I shift into second it pops out quite easily. I am thinking of just buying a whole new tranny. The guy who I buying it from said he would do the swap for free if I just paid for a new tranny. Does anyone know where to get a low milage transmission for cheap?? tanx.
