3rd gear issue/problem

Well for some odd reason my third gear feel like it grinds a little bit, when i shift over 3k. Whats odd about it is it does it every so often, and i do have the clutch engaged fully. J.w if it matters how u shift it into gear, i think it might do it when i kidna put an angle on it, but even then it some times doesnt. any 1 know what might b up?

p.s all the other gears are fine its a 88 non

I would say check your slave and master cylinder's and see if they are in good operating condition.

If soo then the third gear syncro is bad or worn which is very common on these car's! Only a tranny rebuild will remedy the problem funny thing is most people dont even change the gear oil in the trannies if they did the tranny syncro's would last alot longer!

Well man there is a couple of thing's you can do.

A rebuild will run ya anywhere from 1000-1400 buck's or you can go down to a local junkyard and pull another tranny for maybe 50 buck's.

Now if i was you i would just take it easy on the tranny and it should still last a while. The worst that can happen is your third gear will go out completly! In which case you will have to shift from 2nd to 4th which suck's becuase ive gone through 3 trannies while i had my old GXL. But if you drive hard or race then your going to want to replace it pronto.

I used to have that problem--even after getting the transmission rebuilt. I switched to Redline in the gearbox and have had no trouble since.

Sounds like a syncro problem on 3rd, does it change into gear smoothly? If not that is most likely your problem. A set of syncros for the box through Mazda is more expensive that a 2nd hand box over here...

ya it will go i smooth, just i feel it grind just a little to the top right of the gear, I had a racing clutch put in, a ACT 6 puck clutch with a Zoom Lighten FW, didnt do the grinding b4 tho. Also i put royal purple gear oil in. Maybe i should check levels to if it has enough.
