22 inch belt. Forget dual alt pully!! PICS!!

Im going to do a cold air intake on my car within the next month or so. First step is to remove the airpump and keep the water pump spinning.

I saw some posts about 22" belts so I tried a bunch. well heres the results!

Go to Big-A Auto Parts and buy a "gates" brand belt. The number on the box is XL-7215 but the belt measures 22-1/8 inch. Heres the picture;

More pictures in next messages.

The belt fits like factory and only takes 10 minutes to put on.

1. Remove fan (4 10mm bolts)
2. Remove fan studs (about 5mm wide, should just be hand loose)
3. Slip belt on lower pulley
4. start slipping belt on water pully. You may have to rotate the engine (by hand is fine).
5. To finally get the belt over the pulley itself, I used a small screw driver for leverage and just turned the engine over by hand. Very easy!

*** Remove P/S and A/C belts if you have them.

PIcs on the car (poor quality)

This whole project will save you prolly 50 bux and your engine. (50 for the dual alt pulley which I've heard doesnt work well).

Im looking at the box here for the gates belt.. The part number is 10A0545 .

Last picture on the car.

** Belt has a deflect of about 3mm. Perfect fit.

Just a suggestion - clean you engine next time, it's more fun to work on, and the pictures come out better.

Looks like a good option with an electric fan setup..

the problem with the dual belt pulley is that the belts dont stretch evenly, so you end up with a loose one and a tight one. it wasnt a problem when mazda sold japanese belts, but it is with any us made belt

Nice. Not only is it a cheaper alternative, it keeps the stock "Jesus Christ! How many belts do you have under there?" look!

I would but you see, my car runs flawless. Doesnt hickup or anything. The exterior and interior is emaculate but I do realize the engine bay could use some cleaning. Im just going to wait until I pull the motor. That way I can give it a good shoe shine. I need my "chrispy" wiring harness to work until I pull engine (going haltech).

I do want to buy one of those home shopping network steem cleaning machines though! Looks like fun!

I did the 'YooHoo' belt mod also to my 7.. If my silicon hoses would arrive i'ld tell ya how it worked for me it went on easy enough.. put it on the main crank pully first.. then over the waterpump pulley and just rotate as said above.. easy thing to do for sure

i think it is more effective than a dial pulley. the stock alternator pulley has like a cm or two of contact with the water pump pulley. with a dual youve got 2 or 3 cm total. but this one belt alone has like 8 cm or contact. plust the alternator pulley. i have heard of peoples water pumps slipping even with the dual belt. even though it looks more ghetto, its all about the effectiveness.
heres mine

notice how much more contact it makes than the stock pulley.

Its about different ways to get 2 belts on the waterpump pulley when you remove the smog pump. You can either buy a dual belt pulley or put a belt around the waterpump and main pulley.

Strange. I have ditched my Air Pump and have one belt running on my Alternator right now. Yet I'm not experiencing any slippage or overheating. Although I do have a FD Alternator, I bought the Pulley for assurance.

Banzaitoyota has a pulley for $20 it works great and looks good. Only took me about 20mins to do. I think it's easy.

Normal driving and the ocassional drag race wont cause the belt to slip. I had just one belt on my waterpump and it didnt slip for a couple of months. I do some road racing and when youre driving your car hard, constantly in high rpms, the belt starts slipping and the temp starts rising. The "yoohoo belt" did not last very long with me. I guess it couldnt handle the high rpms and one day it vanished from the engine bay. I bought banzaitoyotas dual pulley and my problem was solved.

So the concensus seems to be if you're going to run the 'Yoohoo' belt make sure you check it often 'specially if you plan on doing any sustained high RPM driving

i have a dual pulley and the problem with me is that i by all these belts because i cannot get two of the same quality and length so one always prematurely tears apart

Bump: Rise from the grave (sorry) I just did this with my new rx7 and went through 3 different belt before going back to this thread. The GATES brand belts work the best for some reason they dont stretch out like the rest.

CarQuest sells these belts: its a GATES 22 1/8 inch belt, part number XL-7215

I have pics some time soon, seems archived threads dont retain Pics.
