2 stroke oil setup? ? ?

Does anyone know how much oil to put into each gallon of gasoline, when blocking off the oil metering system? ? ?

Talking 2 cycle oil

You can get it at any car parts store, (kragen, auto zone, ect).
I use one qt in every other full tank of gas.

this might sound dumb but I hope you ment 1/2 a quart in each tank. as opposed to dumping 1 in every 2nd tank... you need it in every tank if you OMP is disabled.

there are many debates about how much. but I forget them all

Whatever product you choose, the recommended mixture will be on the bottle.

no don't go by the bottle!! you go by the engine ratio. each engine has a ratio of fuel to oil. on the bottle it'll just have different ratios and tell you how much to use in each one. I think you want somewhere between 50:1 and 100:1. (or 1/2 to one quart a tank)

The conventional wisdom around here is one ounce per gallon of gas. This works out to a ratio of 128:1. I have seen posts that advice mixtures as lean as 200:1 but I would be a tad scared of that.

I am in agreement with the answer to the every other tank of gas deal. You need to mix the proper amount (whatever you settle on using) with each fill up. If you do not intend on filling up or you are just topping off the tank you need to do a little math in your head to figure out how many gallons you are going to pump in and add the right amount of oil before you pump the fuel.

Adding the oil after you pump fuel is bad. This stuff does not mix together as easily as you might think. Fueling after the oil is poured in will help mix it up better.

do you mean the oil will be left on the top of the tank?

I belive people use the 200:1 ratio for when you still have the OMP working.

and I don't think it matters when you add the oil. it never does mix anyways. as soon as you park it just seperates and it takes a few corners to mix it back up next time you drive.

Not sure where I read it, will really try to find it.

I am almost positive that it is highly recommended with the OMP to run a lean mixture of oil, like 200:1 to help keep the rotary motor well lubricated. This will help get more oil to the outer edges of the housing.

Obviously, if you disable the OMP, up the mix ratio.

Oil Premix

I must disagree with the post that says it does not matter when you put the oil into your tank. You need to pour the oil in first than gasoline to assure as far as possible a complete mixing of the two. Even if the motion of the car does eventually mix the two together, how far will you have driven before this happens. in the interim you are not giving the apex seals the proper lubrication. The oil and gas need to be mixed as completely as possible before you drive away.

Try a little experiment on your on. Get a clear glass jar. Fill it 2/3rds with gas. Now GENTLY pour some oil into it. This would mimic the pouring of oil into your gas tank. Watch the mixture. It will striate or layer. The oil will be on top. This is the same thing that would happen if you fill your tank then add the oil. The fuel pump will be pumping pure gasoline to your engine at least for a while. It sits in the bottom of the tank. This is where the oil mixture needs to be right off, not 50 miles down the road.

Mix oil and gasoline together well and let it sit still for a week. You will find once again that the oil and gas tend to separate. This would not be a problem in a car that is driven daily, but it is something to consider if you are one to let your rex sit for extended periods of time.
