2 quick questions.

I have a coolant leak in my s5 89 t2. I've concluded its the water pump.

1 I have s4 na as parts car. Are the water pumps interchangeable?

2 could the leak just be a gasket/seal or the whole pump should be changed.

Ok three questions.
If no to 1 and 2. Any one got a water pump.? Lol :-)

1... I believe the s4 pump should work fine, BUT you will also need to swap over the s4 fan/clutch (since the centering hole on the fan-clutch mounting flange is a different diameter from s4 to s5)

2... You'll have to take the pump off either way.

No there not interchangeable the actual water pump has a different bolt pattern s4 has 7 bolts vs 8 bolts in the s5, so no the pumps them selves are not interchangeable. heres a picture for reference on http://www.mazdatrix.com/b9wpumps.htm you can see the bolt difference on the bottom of the pump, looks like orielys sells the pump for about 70 bucks new

it could be the gasket, but usually when the pump internal seals fail it will come out a weep hole near the bottom making it somewhat hard to tell

Try Rock Auto.
I went searching for a water pump up here in Canada and the prices were Nuts!
I got one for 80 bucks but I saw prices about 215-230..for the same damn pump
Stupid that the one I got for 80 had the Gasket and the other higher priced ones did not list it in the box.

If you go with rock auto, gates has their s4 and s5 pumps listed backwards.

Speak from experience.
