1990 with intermittent CEL...

I had picked up this car about 6 months ago and everything was fine until lately. I was driving one day and the car started to bog out during acceleration; the check engine light would blink and then stay on. When the CEL went off the car would bog out like a lack of fuel. Once the CEL came back on it would stop. It does this when it wants. I noticed it only does this when the car is warmed up or "operating temp.". I searched to find out what might be wrong. The ecu doesn't store the code though. The intermittent means the electrical device malfuntioning isn't constant. I have tried to pull the code and nothing. I have new vacuum hoses, did aaron cake's grounding procedure, smog pump and emissions are on, had some extra parts from another motor so I replaced the waterthermo sensor once OMP & ECU. Has anybody had something similar happen or any clues to where I should head to next?? Should I be more descriptive? Thanks

I'd probably be looking at a loose connector (or wire in a connector), if you have already replaced most of the sensors and MOP and ECU and are still getting the issue.

Thanks, I will check the connectors to see if I do have a loose wire in a connection somewhere. Could one of the solonoids not be in proper function and cause the vacuum to operate inadequately? I will update after I get into checking out some electrical components.

ECUs are bulletproof don't bother thinking about that.

Its probably a loose connection, look around check all connections

Mine sure as hell wasn't bulletproof! OMP took that thing right out!

I checked a few devices out and everything seems to be together. The car had a hissy fit today repeating the problem and I decided to leave the check connecter grounded while driving. When I was driving CEL flashed with 4 longs and 9 shorts=49? which isn't a code to my knowledge. I decided to head stright home. Once home 09 was on repeat... water thermosensor. So I will be picking up one shortly. Then checking the wiring next. I do hope this is closer than I have been. This is the second water thermosensor in 2 months, yet that was with the old ECU.

Yes and no on bulletproof ECUs, OMP will blow it and it's a combo (OMP and ECU) replacement if I remember correctly and that's how I did it.

Yeah s5 ECUs suck . But according to a Mazda technician I know ECUs almost never fail, hes got a huge box of every single rotary ECU...doubles and triples of them.

Your waterthermosensors can't just keep failing, its gotta be the associated wiring that has somethin to do with it.

yea the waterthermosensor rarely fails. i would say check to see if there are any breaks in the wire.

went to double check the connecter and bam! The connecter was good but the wire inside was pushed out the back. Therefore I cut and spliced a new connecter and BAM! Now the seven is running without any more problems as of now. Thanks for the input.
