$299 for a cluch fan, w/o iestallation
Just got the quote of $299.00 for a cluch fan at $299.00 without installation, at $75.00 per hour. Where can I do better than that? Also, could I do it myself, including a new thermostaf?

I know he has to have some used ones there that should be good. Installing a clutch fan is a simple four bolt job. Just get a new thermostat from the dealer. Many people only advise getting an OEM Mazda thermostat.

Ya, for sure get an elecrtic fan!!!!
They are so easy to install.
All you have to do are hook the wires up to the battery!!
One more thing- if you have AC, you are going to need to hook the fan wire up to the AC compressor signal wire, so that the fan goes on whenever the AC is turned on.. just use a diode on the wire so that when the fan goes on it doesn't turn the AC compressor.

option 1: E-fan if you up to that level of DIY.
option 2: replacement fan clutch from Mazdatrix.com
Note: You must use a box end wrench to remove the 10mm nuts. An open end will round them off

Fan Clutch
I just replaced the stock fan clutch on the wife's 7. I got it at AutoZone for $98.92. It was special order. I ordered it on Thursday afternoon and picked it up Friday afternoon. Installation was a snap.
Take a look at www.autozone.com.
