when i had my 1988 red gxl every one at my school thought i drove a ferrari
i guess they have never seen a rotary because one of the kids from my school
was a cocky mother ****** thinking he was badass trying to rev up his automatic tc i reved mine
and hes like what kinda engine is that how many pistions? is it a v8? v6? this was at mikey Ds when i saw him and i just laughed and drove off. there are so many haters out there

Today, a man at the gas station saw me checking my oil, I noticed that my engine harness has a bit burned off so I was examining it closely...
Him- Ah, an RX-7, cool, what are you looking for?
Me-(golden opportunity) pistons, I can't find them!
HE COMES OVER AND TRIES TO LOOK FOR THEM!!
I laughed so hard I fell and was rolling on the ground! he went to his car and left.

one day i pull up to the valareo gas station on wilmington and rosecrans. see this white dude that cant get his lifted jeep started. my starters about to go aswel so when i start mine up it dosent always turn over on the 1st try.
him- ha need a push?
me- nah she just needs some loving..
i got one one complement from a dude and datsun Z,
him.. nice car bro is it american?
me. its a rotary..
he gave me cheezy smile and drove off..
i get the "mow my lawn" skit from my uncle.. he drives a camery

But back on topic, I'll contribute. I rarely hear many ignorant things about rotaries/7s around here, but I did have an interesting conversation with a guy at a Sear's auto center. I had stopped by to get my battery replaced under warranty, so I had to pop the hood and take the old one out. As soon as I did, nearly everyone in the repair bay started trying to get a better look. My painted intake manifold & top mount got their attention I guess. So, anyway, this older guy (early 50s maybe) starts asking me questions. I was nice enough about it, and explained away, but a couple of things he asked me made me laugh. First, he asked if my hood came off of a mustang (because of the scoop), to which I replied that it was a stock hood & pointed out the intercooler. Then he asked if my intercooler came off of an MR2. He got the same reply: "No... it's a stock mazda part", and thankfully stopped asking if every part on the car was taken from something else.
I think it just boils down to people flat out not knowing what the car is at all. It's always "wow, that's a nice car... what is it?
." I've even had one guy that followed me off the freeway stop and ask if it was a Maserati. At least he saw some of the letters on the back, but he still had no clue what it was. Not exactly an insult to mistake my vert for a Maserati though

HA HA HA Internet tough guy you guys are hella funny most of my homies bacc home are not into cars like I am they think RX7s are garbage and damn near any import period they like 22 and bigger to them nothin is better than a Chevy and American cars and all that bull... Your right cause most of my homies dont say hella anymore its mainly my Spanish, Asian and White homies that say hella now days most of us blaccs say what it was short for now "HELL OF A" except for when we spell it!!!

children children, jeez, perhaps slang on the interent perticularly on a forum this big is looked down upon is simply because for some people, your impossible to understand
i mean you have people from all over american, parts of south american, canada, all over europe, japan, china, and the aussies, excuse me if i missed anywere
if its a popular thing to say on the west coast, nobody but you guys are going to understand it, which kinda makes you sound stupid to the rest of the world

back on track: some *** that i smoked twice when he had his **** ford taurus SHO drove by my house and noticed i had a different rex in my drive way(must have just saw f&f)
so he pulls over checks it out, and askes a bunch of questions about it and what not.
now mind you he pulls up in an 80's honda accord,
so he tells me as he looks at my newer car "now thats a real car"
so i look at him dumbfounded and procceded to remind him how my "fake" car beat his car twice, the second time was on one rotor because of fuel issues
he then turned and walked away with his head down
i dont think im fast, but a win is a win

really its false to give it a location that people say it, here in nyc and the surounding area people say it too...still sounds stupid imo, especially since as stated above "hella" is slang for "hell of a"
