I saw a thread in the first gen section similar to this one and wanted to start one in the second gen section. Share stories about the funny/stupid/random etc. things that people have said about our cars. My friends and I always have stories for eachother about the ignorant/ stupid things people say about our modified cars and just cars in general, but the stories about rotaries and rx7s are the best. SO share your stories! Ill add a few experiences I have had here but Ill add more later if I remember any or encounter more idiotic comments after today. I try not to make fun but to educate. Anyway here ya go:

kid from school "yea i think i've heard of a rx7 before. its a sports car right? what kinda engine- a v6 or a v8?"

boss "wait your car is a '91! i thought it was like a 2000 or sumthin like that"

girl from school "yea i know what a rotary is! you told me before- it has no pistols!" (and she wants a RX-8 for her first car.....)

another kid from school "Only 1.3 liters! HAHAHAHA what a small piece of crap! Whats it got like 6hp!?" (of course he wants a mustang.....)

my favorite said by many including all of my friends "Holy **** thats loud as hell!"

the other day at a parts store they had a rotary rebuild kit under the counter It was a rubber band. i laughed like hell.

 

best one ive ever got was "wow nice porche" ******* people but it could have been b/c i have porche rims on it lol but what ever

 

Ok, I'll bite.

In my 87 n/a tearing down 322 and playing around with a A4 1.8T Quattro, just having fun. Side by side the passenger of the A4 puts the window down:

"Uh, dude...there's flames coming out of your exhaust!"

My response:

"Yea, I know. It does that."

Smiled and went on our merry ways.

I'm sure there were other things. The obvious piston comments and etc.

i had a guy in a f-350 chase me down to tell me my car was on fire one time. i get fireballs on every shift and every time i let off and they are pretty big.

one kid told me that my car didnt sound right and i should pop the hood and see if the apex is still working cause they break alot..

 

one guy once asked me what year my Supra(FC) was....and he was driving an mkIII

the whole fwd at the emissions station is scary, have had it happen a few times, the last time the guy said that he knew it was and was only testing me. then he said he like how my v-6 sounded. ******* idiot.

"Holy S***" and "WTF was that" are also common when I'm using the 2-step for fun (a.k.a. "backfire button")

One I'm sick of hearing is "Dude your car blew up, you can't say anything" (my car caught on fire last year) to which I reply "Yeah, I fixed it myself too, oh, then I built, installed, and tuned a standalone myself. What have you done again?"

 

My buddy's Son said to me.."either LET THOSE BEES OUT OF THE CAN,or get a GOOD exhaust!"..LOL!..now I got a Racing BEAT exhaust on..he says"I can hear ya before you even get here!"

 

One of my friends always asks me to mow his lawn for him.
I also get the "is that a 4-cyl" etc questions sometimes too. And "don't those break a whole lot?" I'm disappointed, though, cause no one's commented on me premixing.

 

Background info: Saw a RX7 FB in a shop went to ask who the owner was since it looked like a nice FB (only saw the back side), i went into the garage and saw the mechanic/owner and this is the conversation roughly

Me: Heya, this your RX7
Him: Yeah its mine, got rid of the baloney slicer tho
Me: Baloney slicer?
Him: Yeah, gotta get a real engine, not some baloney slicer crap
Me: /rollseyes/ and walked away

 

wow starscream, i dont know if i could not hit em with that comment. i get "thats loud" "WTF, 1.3 liter and you killed my (89) supra?" or "so you gotta v-6/8 right?" OR from the ladies "i dont know what a rotary is, but it sounds hot" <=== i was like !0_0!

I got a lot of people that want me to explain it. I have a rotor decal on my back window, so I just point to it and say "it has those instead of pistons. They go around in circles around the crankshaft."
