I'm pretty lucky so far. I only get asked the "what year" question, but now that my friend always sees me in my '86 N/A, every time he sees a 944 he thinks its me.

Haven't had any good ones recently. Best one is I was at a gas station... not gettin gas believe it or not, and my car was sitting in idle. And I have a cheap $40 fart can muffler, so its quite loud. Well this really old lady parks next to me, gets out and just starts staring at my car. I'm thinkin here it comes, she's gonna bitch at me cause cars too loud. She looks over at me, and says, "Thats a really nice car, you don't see too many of those nowadays " I was frickin shocked, I mean this lady was like 80, I'm surprised she could see my car being three feet from it. Well at least i though it was funny

Best one i had recently was when i was looking for my front brake rotors. SO i checked advance auto and the smart *** kid working when i asked for rotors was like which ones? engine rotors, front brake rotors, or rear brake rotors? I was like wow nice try then i left and ordered brembo solids with hawk pads off tire rack and they came quicker than advance could even get their shitty combo

^^^ I'm just curious, do you expect everyone to know what a rotary is? He does work at advanced auto... Seems like in 99.5% of all situations, its a reasonable question.

ummm, huh? I don't see the funny or retarded in that. If I was behind a parts counter and someone asked me for "rotors" for an RX-7, I would probably ask the exact same question.

I don't get how some of you think it's lame people don't know you have a rotary engine, or how it works. Don't hate, educate. I'm always drawing little napkin diagrams of what a rotor looks like and explaining **** to people who don't know what's up.

seems like a dick move to just clown on people for not knowing.

Ok I got a new one my friend told me the other day, he has an 88 vert and he went to a general car meet and some kid with an rx8 comes over to him and says man I wish there were more rotary cars in the area, then asked if it was single or double my friend responeded it's nonturbo.. The kid says nooo does it have a single or a double rotor? My friend is pretty nice so he let it go and just said it's a two rotor 13b the rx8 kid then responds yeah that's what's in mine too, at this point my friend turns and walks away laughing then tells the kid to do his homework before he trys to brag anymore.

Agreed

Some people forget to realize that at one point they had not a damn clue wtf a rotary engine was and they were just as clueless as the people they are making fun of. Funny thing is, they still would not know **** about them if they ran into *******'s, like themselves, for information

This is why all Rx-7's should come with that rotary keychain so we can teach others

http://store.rotarynews.com/images/f.../keychains.jpg

I think its fun to mess with people you know have our inside jokes with our car, but dont be a dick about it lol like the guy at schucks auto when I pulled up. He ask
Him" what happen to your hood"
Me"... my hood? I think its on my car haha "
Him"no no not the one the one that came with the Verts, the one with the hood scoop you know?"
Me:" o ya that... a... when I got the front mounted intercooler I did not need the scoop so i got the normal hood."
Him"well if you still have it you should put it back on it looks a lot better."

haha I guess he knows 2 guys that have done TII swaps in to there Verts so I dont blam him... man that would have been nice if they make TII Verts

I was explaining to my friend how the rotary works. His question after was: "So compression happens on all sides at the same time? How can it move?"
I told him no but he still thinks thats what happens. Oh well

Oww!!!! My brain! How does he think that would work, unless the housing shrinks and expands around the rotors....

Oh yeah, so this Saturday, I took my friend to the lexus dealership, so i could show him the Lexus Starfire Pearl (the paint i'm going with when I repaint.) So the guy working their comes out and starts his whole sale thing (He's like 50 btw.) So I immediately tell him, I'm not here to buy a car, just looking at the paint. So here went the convo. Oh and my friend was with me, he doesn't alot about rotaries and Rx7s (more than this guy I guess, cause he was laughing too.)

Guy- Nice Rx7, I used to own a second gen just like it, What year?
Me- 89
G- Me too, mine was a convertible. Did you know that was the first year they made a convertible?
M- Wait, that can't be right. I'm pretty sure it was either 87 or 88 that was the first year. Cause I know there were convertibles when it was a series 4.
Case (friend)- Yeah.... I was just looking at one for sale today.
G- You must be mistaken, cause I'm sure of it. Twin Turbo and everything.
M- Wait, hold on. The twin turbo is on the FD, so you swapped the engine?
G- No! It was a stock 1989 Mazda Rx7 Convertible Twin Turbo! (The aggravation in his voice was starting to build)
M- Thats not possible, there was no twin turbo second gen.
G- It said it on the engine "Turbo II"
C- *restraining from laughing too hard* That doesn't mean twin turbo, thats just the name of engine.
M- Yeah, the twin turbo says on it "Sequential Twin Turbos" Didn't you ever notice there was only one turbo in the engine bay?
G- Thats the thing, there was two turbos in it. I'm positive!
M- Okay, I must be mistaken, thanks for the help *walk off laughin with my friend*

Also, not sure exactly, but in the US, was there even a turbo option? I didn't even think there was?

Turbo II's came from the US, they were the ONLY turbo'd 2nd gen RX-7 here, where all RX-7's produced in Japan (for Japan) came turbo'd.

Sorry, wasn't clear. I was asking if the convertibles in the US came with a turbo option? As far as I knew, all verts came N/A in the US, is that correct?

Haha, then thats even more hilarious! So in total this guy said, he had a stock, unmolested 1989 Rx7 Convertible (First year of the vert btw) Twin Turbo. Cause it said Turbo II on it, and he is sure cause he saw both turbos. Thats awesome! And this guy was so positive, and everytime I started talking, he just immediately was shaking his head "no" as if I was just completely wrong about everything. Haha, good times.

My friend asked me the other day:
F: How many CC's is it?
Me: It's a 1.3
F: !! You must get really good gas mileage then huh?
Me: it's not much better than your 240 would get, it fires twice per revolution on each rotor, it's almost like a 2.6
F: Oh that's cool, it's sorta like a 2 stroke then. Btw, Mr. Brown (Auto shop teacher) really wants one to show the class how they work.

I'm glad he understands it :P

I told my other friend who has a B-King, (1300 cc bike)
that I got a 1300 too! He was like No way! where is it?
*walk over to the car*
he gave me a stupid look :P
