omg wtf bbq!!!

very nice car. i've got the same diffuser, minus the vortex generators in the middle, and the extra downforcers on the side.

did you run it in each stage, or did you just put it all together and run it fully assembled?? reason i am asking, because i wanted to know how much more stable is the car at speed, or did you do that for low speed stability?

thanks everyone!!!
-275 40 17 front and a 315 35 17 rear
-i did the defuser all at once. but the car jjust feels better---however
with the addition of the wing the car has become very aero dependant.
so while driving on the freeway if your passing a semi truck or big van, the high pressure on the outside of the car vs the inside(next to the truck) of the car has a very unsetteling tendancy of "pulling" you into the side of that truck...
-THe tails, i did get a kick out of how long it took anyone to notice...
I have an in house painter. So i had him take 5 coats of candy red on the orange 2 on the red (so it would match). and then black out the reflector(not 100%legal but really if the cop is going to start writing tickets he'll never stop anyway)

i see how that could happen....

i havent driven my car yet (been in the shop for about 4 months), but i didnt opt for those side downforcers, or the vortecies in the center. i also still have the stock wing on, but i am thinking about the foresight rear wing. i dont want a ton of downforce, but at speed it definitely needs a bit more. i bet around 140-150, that car is severely stable.... how drastic was the suspension setup changed with all that downforce? like, what did you change in the settings once all the aero parts were fitted?

I love your wheels!!!

I am running the stance coilovers now and I like them allot.,.,., on slicks.
on street tires they compleatly overpower the tires.

as far as the aero affecting handeling. it really starts to be noticable at about 55...
the car becoms more darty. the ride gets stiffer. and you notice every gust of wind. at 100 the car reacts very well not to twitchy but responsive and perdictable
at 125+ you really dont have any feedback from the car anymore as the "glue" effect is amazing. on slicks at low psi (27 cold) on hoosiers feedback is allready reduced, this combigned with the aero at high speed really meens that your driving on "faith" that the car will hold...

i have to tell you. its really scary at times but SO much fun...

Next I really have to cage this car as the 1.3+ g's that this thing holds is starting to really tweak the body badly.

shine auto GREAT STUFF!!!

the tires barely rubbed when i had softer sidewalled 285's on back. with decent 275s, they dont rub at all.
(all the sidewall flex pushed the tire into the LCA on hard cornering)

I had to gusset and cut into my rear lcs's to get mine to clear... its really amazing how much sticky tires roll at full load...

Thanks
Honestly, no one laughed more then us when I first did it... but after about 1 minute we all shut up and realized somehow it "finished" the car. I took it off a while back just to drive around and it made me sick to look at it...

*edit* i really am never going to take it off.

So have you actually killed any cones with this thing yet? Taking it to nationals? It would be freaking sweet to have a FC there to fight the FDs.

^^ Ditto ^^ I would like to see some pictures of how you mounted the wing if you have any. I couldn't fully see it in any of them. I had always wondered how I would mount a large spoiler like that without going re-amemiya (fuggin expensive)

BTW I am in sm2 as well. What is your car's weight with a quarter tank???? I have mine down to 2600 even in my '87 TII without taking out the sunroof workings or having any carbon panels. I also haven't replaced the seats with lighter corbeau or sparco replacements
Nice job guy, looks really good.

I have killed many, many, many cones...
i am not going to nats this year, still trying to get the car controllable, its got loads of grip and I am not a good enough driver to react both to what the car is doing as well as what I am about to need it to do. stuff happens really fast!!!
trying to get the brake balance correct on the staggered wheels…
Ive only been on this setup for 3 weekends so I still have allot of tweaking to get the car better.. and I have only done 7 autox’s myself. Ever.

SO to that end whats everyone view on front caster on the fc?

For the wing I welded tabs to the rear hatch. Ill try to take a couple pics later today.
Im at 2500lbs with at least another 50 to lose…
Im going to build a swurl pot into the fuel system so I can lose 2 to 3 gal of the gas.
Now at max lateral I hit fuel starve at anything less then `6-7 gal

Now. I honestly don’t think that an fc can compete on the same ground with the fd’s or even the corvettes on an autocross. The unequal trailing arm and mc-poopy front suspension prevents us from getting any camber gain when we need it. There are just to many transitions that the suspension geometry cant cope with. Both the vetts and the fd’s camber gain through the transitions means that the 2 cars are much more responsive and controllable. Not to mention that they also get to use much more of there inside wheels then we do, se sig above…

BUT that’s not going to keep me from trying at nats next year!

You have yours down pretty light. Is it a TII???? Sorry, that should be obvious, but I couldn't see a sunroof lol.
I have been working on a lot of things for my car over the last 3 years. I am the utah region sm2 champ, but that doesn't mean anything more than I don't have competition locally. The only turbo miata that runs sm2 isn't even close to me because I have almost 100whp more than him and he is inexperienced.

I have stock body panels. However I bought the molds from tripoint engineering for their rediculous wide body panels (3" on each side front and back) I plan on running 295 front 315 Rear. That reminds me, the FC already has a lot of rear brake bias. Don't worry too much about that till you find the limit of the front tires is much less than the rear. I can lock up my 225 hoosiers at will, but I need more rubber lol.
I hope that I can drop some more weight in a few places. I haven't finished by far. I have an aluminum n/a hood and its pretty light, and more sturdy than a fiberglass one.
The fc definately has a very generic suspension setup, but remember, if bmw's can make macpherson front strut suspension work well, then we can too. I find the rear grip to give up way before the front. Give it some time and experience and it will smooth right out.

Oh and one last question. Where have you taken weight out of that doesn't include removing interior? The bin cover panel is fairly heavy, I had thought to replace it with something a little lighter or something.
