1) Helps to start with something in good condition.
2) Regular (and proper technique) degreasing/scrubbing/powerwash or hose/pressured air blow off, with wax/tire shine product on all metals and plastics... even trying to get to the stuff you dont see often.

(I have a cleaning problem...
Been OCD about paint care since my first car. Old miata was just as nice as the FC, I would regularly wash it, and wax about twice a year... People would like to put me down and say I was going to ruin the paint... I think they were just jealous because they owned fading **** boxes.... I dont hang out in the car world anymore, I dont see myself as a car person, just a guy who has a vehicle.)

you use elbow grease and take pride in what you are doing

 

100% functional. the paint and pretty part will take time. I need actual aluminum side panels instead of foil tape on the sides of the v-mount

 

Why did you use foil? Lots of companies make heat reflective tape that would look much better imo.

painted the bay this summer while we rebuilt the engine. Really happy with the results.

I'll get an updated pic soon once I get my cooling tray installed. Also got a new turbo. bigger than that 60-1

 

The way I mounted my v-mount I had open space on the sides. the foil tape was a temporary solution until I can fab up some aluminum replacements.
