Actually its aluminum...I have it and I reccomend it. It may pose some problems when routing my front mount, but that doesn't look like a problem you'll be running into

...so I see
I never had a lift
But that's fine; between bench pressing FC rear end parts and driving my friend's non-functioning power steering (not to be confused with de-powered [easy] or manual [easier]) car while mine was down this spring I got jacked! lol
Just a few small updates, nothing major.
I have given the HKS Intercooler a good clean, degrease and polish and it has come up pretty good compared to how it was. I think it should look nice atop of the engine with the new silicone hoses I have for it.
I have also got the Series 5 LSD out and sitting next to the subframe and will give them both a really good wash before I start to work on the suspension and diff.
I have ordered...
MMR Rear Camber Adjusters
X-Treme Rotaries DTSS Rear Steer Eliminator Bushes
Rear Diff Mounts
The diff mounts arrived yesterday and the other parts will be here next week.
So if all goes well the car will be back on the road by the end of August.
Here are some various photos...

I came across this thread whilst Googling for info on RX7 short shifters.
I signed up to just say I really like what you've done here. It's a nice, clean, subtle, sensible car and is looking GREAT with those wheels. The amount of work you've done yourself on your garage floor is pretty inspirational for me working on my own Aus-delivered S4 Turbo.
Keep up the awesome work

Unfortunately the 2nd cage I bought also did not fit!! Killer. So I am now just going to get a custom weld in cage made in the next month or two.

The S4 is a mechanical LSD , so you can always purchase parts for it and rebuild it, or do some custom stuff to it like shim it for extra lock etc. S5 is vicious and those are not really rebuildable or anything.
I scored the Series 5 LSD for free off a friend, so for now, it will be far better than the auto single spinner I have in the car.
If it does give up the ghost I will replace the centre with a Cusco, KAAZ or Mazdaspeed item.

I have not had any updates in a while, but today I spent a lot of time out in the garage.
To start with I removed the old diff mounts from the S5 LSD I am installing and then fitted the new Delrin mounts I had ready to go in.
I also removed the old S4 auto single spinner diff from the subframe and removed the axles and half shafts ready to install on the S5 LSD.

NEW MOUNTS HALF WAY IN

ALL DONE
In the below picture you will notice I have removed the half shafts from the old auto single spinner diff and installed into the S5 LSD ready to bolt the axles back onto.

I then worked on removing the axle carriers so I could remove the old DTSS bushes and install the Xtreme Rotaries DTSS Eliminator bushes.
This job was also a lot easier than I thought, but I have hit a snag half way through. I took the carriers to the local suspension shop to have them press the old ones out and press the new ones in, but the guys farked one of the new bushes whilst pressing in. So now I have to wait for them to get a replacement before I can re-install.
You will notice in the below pictures the factory DTSS bushes are not in good shape, so I am happy to be replacing them anyway. The car will hold rear toe settings much better now.

Then I installed the MMR Rear Camber Adjusters to allow me to fine tune the rear camber side by side vs the centre camber bar I have that does both sides together.
These are a trick piece of gear and will be great for fine tuning the rear set up.

So as it sits now, the rear end assembly is looking pretty good and is almost finished.
I just need to get the axle carriers back with the DTSS eliminators installed and fit those back on and then I can assemble the entire rear end again.
So the parts I have fitted are...
- DTSS Rear Steer Eliminator Bushes
- Solid Diff Mounts
- Individual Adjustable Camber Links
- S5 LSD
LSD INSTALLED IN SUBFRAME, CAMBER LINKS IN AND DIFF MOUNTS IN
