confused on something.

(Not positive if thisshould be in technical or non technical) anyway, I'm lost on the differences between the s4 and s5 on the topic of flames shooting out the exhaust. If I understand correctly, to make a 7 shoot flames you just loose the emmisions and get the most free flowing exhaust you can find. On the s4 engines the 6 port system Runs on exhaust backpressure. So loosing Emissions would make it so 5th and 6th ports wont work. correct? On the s5 they run on air pump pressure so loosing Emissions wont effect the 5 and 6 ports? If that's all correct then is there a way on the s4 to change how the ports are activated to allow for a more free flowing exhaust to be used? (Pretty sure my 88 vert is s4. Not positive. I'm still new to rotaries. Just trying to further my knowledge of my car)

Holy... rofl.. I'm so glad I got on to visit, not that I haven't ask my share of questions. To answer a few of the points you raised, though I'm sort of confused to be honest.
1) On a s4 the auxiliary ports are operated by the exhaust back pressure, but as far as I know removing the emissions will not affect them at all. I'm pretty sure it'll only mess with them if you are talking about removing the catalytic converter and running a straight pipe.
2) On a s5 the auxiliary ports are operated by the air pump which also pumps extra air into the exhaust while idling for emissions. Its been awhile but I'm thinking the air pump feeds air to the ACV which then sends it to the exhaust... EITHER WAY.

More or less, on a s4 you can remove all the emissions and still have the auxiliary ports working. Though removing all the emissions usually causes your car to have all kinds of idle issues and warm-up issues because of the BACV. Being in PA you don't want that as winter is coming.
On a s5 you can remove all the emissions but then either have to remove the actuators and open the sleeves or rig the ports to open electronically; judging by your post I'd say this is probably going to be too difficult for you to do. (no offense).

But to be honest most rx7's throw flames on their own without any modifications at all. From my experience being around rednecks you can rev it to 3800-4000rpm (around when the secondary injectors kick in) and then let off and the extra fuel will cause it to backfire/shoot flames.. Though if you do this I feel sorry for your rx7.

(Any information that I got wrong please correct, but I'm just getting back in rotaries after a year hiatus).

It would be cool for a few days I'm sure but I wouldn't keep it that way. I'm more about performance then visual anyway.

None taken.

When people say no Emissions I just assume either no cat or a hollow one along with the rest of the system. That's why I was confused. I'm not going to claim to be a super genius about cars in general. I know the basics of about everything I stuck around college long enough for electrical and then dropped out. I don't know a lot but I'm confident in my own abilities to do almost any work myself. (I'm not going to tackle something like an engine rebuild anytime soon though)

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. Any more is welcome.

alriiiight. the "i'm sure my 88 vert is s4" thing was pretty funny

86-88 = Series 4

89-91 = Series 5

remove the cat = flames (pretty ****** cool, and i love doing it)

i have no 5/6 ports, and don't even mind it(but i highly recommend you do your exhaust correctly, and keep your 5/6 ports)

i'm pretty sure your exhaust will still have a good amount of back pressure if all you do is replace your cat with a resonated test pipe or something custom like that(any exhaust shop can hook you up)

anyways, Good luck!

You can have your 5th/6th ports stuck open the whole time. ( Not recommended though, loss of low end torque ). Liek beachFC said though, gut your cat.

As long as you dont remove the split air pipe your aux ports should still work. Maybe not as well, but theyll still open and close. I have a 90 GXL with full RB exhaust and it spits a tiny flame from each muffler on decel after a redline. Why would you want to make it do it anyway? Its bad for the engine and can get you pulled over in some areas.
