*Door Skin*
#7
The reason i want door skins is b/c i dont want no mud in my doors. Over the 20+ years of the car the doors kinda have a little wave ,theres no dents in them or anything major. I figured i would get a price on new skins. If i got them my father would be installing them, he puts a minimum of 1 door skin on something per day. I would buy a whole door IF the door was perfectly flat and had no mud in it but I'm not looking to pay 900 for a new door.
Yea i guess skin/shell would be the same. you have them at your house?

If by "mud" you mean body filler, good luck. The chances of finding a door that hasn't had at least a light spread of filler is not going to be easy, if not impossible.

Yes sir, but my trunk will have a very very skim coat b/c welding the holes were the emblems, Thats pretty much it. Hoods perfect no dents or dings. Drivers quarter perfect not a ding in it, passengers side quarter near the bottom wear the rear bumper meats the quarter has a little ding but i think i can work it out. doors are just alittle to wavy.

We are working with cars that don't have readily available sheet metal, so any you do find have possibly been laying around for 20 years.

But if you can work metal, why get a whole new skin in the first place? It's a very unnecessary expense. Even with a door skin, it's entirely possible that you will have to do light filler work anyway.

Im having a hard time believing your dad can hang skins easily, but he cant make a used door straight.
Anyways...buy a used door, check it for filler before you buy it.
I dont know how many new shells ive seen, or new skins ive hung that ended up being more labor in straightening them out than it would have been to fix the original door in the first place.
