Angry Strange horn issue...

I just purchased a 1989 Rx7. The car had an aftermarket steering wheel and I'm trying to put back the stock three spoke OEM steering wheel back on. I have attached the three spoke no issues. However, when I screw down the horn switch (3 screws/where the air bag would be in modern cars) to the wheel, the horn will not work. If I remove the 3 screws, the horn will work. I have done multiple tests (multimeter and jumping connections) and I for sure know that I have good power and the horn switch is also good. When I connected power to the horn switch and jump to ground (with a jumper cable), the horn will sound when I press the horn switch. I have even placed a jumper to ground with the horn switch installed and it WILL NOT WORK when the three screws that hold in the horn switch are attached to the wheel. In theory, I have good power, ground and switch...I'm at a loss here. Any help would be appreciated!
