omp swap?
I have a 1990 vert automatic and the omp has gone out, i really don’t wanna pay 1600 for a brand new one so in my poor ways i have resorted to marketplace and found a guy parting out an s5 manual vert. he has priced his omp at 250 and says it is working (he said he was selling it to run premix). i was wondering how hard it would be to remove and attach the new omp and if i would have to do any special things to make the omp work with my car? i would do premix but i heard that i’m unable to because my cars an automatic.

As far as I know all there is no difference between the manual and auto trans. OMP. Hardest part is probably being very careful not to break the old lines as the are probably brittle by now. Premix has nothing to do with being an auto. It's that the S5 ECU goes into limp mode if a working OMP isn't present.

If he's gone to a standalone and isn't using the stock ECU anymore then he could go to premix only. Not sure on price as I haven't shopped for one I don't know what the going rate for one is.

Gotcha, i found a listing on Lucky 7 racing for an s5 turbo model omp and im wondering if it would be compatible or not with my NA, i know that they should be basically the same but i don’t know if the extra flowing speed might mess up something or if it wouldn’t work with my ecu. it’s also a J-Spec so im really wondering if that would fit on a US spec. i know the engine are kinda flip flopped and such and i can’t really find any people that have done it so im assuming it’s not possible but always worth a check!

Honestly i’m not sure. i didn’t even know they could be cleaned and rebuilt. Do you know how labor intensive and how much it would cost to rebuild it? I personally thought it would just be a pain in the to rebuild it and that with my lack of knowledge i should just buy a new one. What would you suggest?

Me personally, I would try to rebuild it. If it truly is bad then you haven't lost anything other than a little time and the cost of the rings. You'll also learn how it is built.

alright awesome thanks for the help. i think i might just purchase it and if it doesn’t work just slap it right back up for sale i guess. it’s worth a shot i know atkins rotary sells some on ebay but they say they take it off random cars and can’t gurantee if they work so it’s a 400 dollar gamble. so i think i might as well gamble the 160 instead
