Engine shaking badly
Engine shaking badly
so It’s a dumb question but one day my vert just started shaking very aggressively, I also drive it about once a week, while car shakes and you can defienetly see it by watching the shifter shake like crazy. It even shook the mad plug loose. But is it motor/tranny mounts or is it time for a rebuild. Car has 126k miles on original engine. Thanks to anyone who has some info!
When the engine has one strong rotor and the other fails, the engine will run and will shake pretty harshly. Faulty engine mounts can cause the engine to shake and vibration will be felt through the car. Start with a proper compression test and check to make sure the engine mounts are not broken by attempting to rock the engine by hand. The engine should flex but not rock easily. You can also get under the car and check for a faulty trans mount. It should be pretty obvious if the rubber on the trans mount is deteriorated.
Thanks for the info! I’m really hoping it’s not a bad rotor.. of course with my luck this happens and I have a kid on the way.
Would the basic rebuild kit from Atkins for $600 be okay if I had to rebuild? My mechanic gave me a quote when I bought he car two years ago for a rebuild and it was $1700, he said I might as well have then order me a motor from Japan and drop that in

The cheapest route is a JDM engine. however, the quality can be hit and miss. I've had good luck with them and they are a great way to go if you like to gamble a little. You will need to determine if the engine is running on one rotor and if so, remove it and open it up. You will need to determine if housings are needed. You'll need a complete rebuild kit and you'll need to determine if any lapping is needed.
