timing/shaking engine

Here's the deal I have aftermarket pulleys so they have the four white timing marks, I understand the degrees are like this -10 0 +10 +20
| | | |

When I set the leading to -5 (factory) the engine shakes at idle, it will smooth out @ -10, is it possible that these aren't the correct degrees of the marks, do I just need new engine mounts, or do I need to run a lower degree

Beats me - talk to the manufacturer of the pulley and see what they say. They should have covered this.

I hope you're positive that you installed the pulley(s) right! If not, you may have dropped a bearing, in which case it will run fine for a while and then create a slight wobble which can really mess things up.

In my case, shake was the engine trying to stall because of low idle.

Find a stock pulley, set timing, reinstall aftermarket pulley and check(reference) for accuracy. Some pulleys have inacurrate timing marks and timing should be set and left alone prior to new pulley installation.

Also, does the idle increase or decrease when comparing -10 and +10?
Also, what ignition wire are you using while checking timing?

You need to check the idle, reset the idle, set the timing, and recheck timing/idle with each timing or idle change. Throw in TPS adjustment while you're at it and you shouldn't have any problems.
