Question Nos?

Does anyone here know of any NOS kits or Nitirous kits/equivalent that will fit on to a 20B without much moding.

this will be for my 20B corvair (funny ain't it) I am not a turbo person and I am not going to pay for a supercharger for it. So I am looking at a N/A or nitirous. I am not looking for huge power but just enough to justify the swap.

The whole Idea is power to weight while still having a streetable driver. now like I said not going for big HP but the 350-400 range is what I am looking for. now does anyone know of how much a 20B makes stock?

Um, if you can't make your own nitrous injection system for a 20B, then you don't have the skills to put one in a Corvair. Sorry to be so blunt, but that's the way it is. I suggest that you enlist some professional help, as this works quite well for me whenever I get in over my head.

Anyway, there is no need for nitrous, as the 20B-REW is capable of making around 400 HP with a stock block and turbos, and up to 550 HP when street ported. Going NA will only cost more, yield less HP, and create a lot of noise.

The 20B-REW was rated at 280ps @ 6500rpm, 41.0kg-m @ 3000rpm (276bhp @ 6500rpm, 296 ft-lbs @ 3000rpm) as installed in the JC Cosmo luxury car. This may not be very accurate, as it is quite likely that Mazda under-rated the engine to the politically-correct 280ps limit.

Considering how popular 20bs are, and how many there are in Japan, how come we haven't seen a dyno of a stock one to see just how much HP it makes?

Exactly. These engines are very rare, even in Japan.

Here is the brochure:

No If I have to I will fabricate a system but I was just going to see what was out there first. you know why build everything yourself and find out there was a kit for it all along that was esier and cheaper (yeah right) but this was not going to be any time soon but I will do it. I won't settle for anything less than a 20B. This needs to be a semi-unique car. But by nature of this engine I didn't think there was a kit. well looks like it's me and kevin doing this build.

You have a point. There were no such things as K2RD 20B engine mounts or Racing Beat 20B exhaust flanges when the work began on my conversion. I can't weld, so fabrication sucks the $$$ out of my wallet at a very rapid rate, plus R&D has delayed my project from day one. I figure that by the time my car hits the street, there will be a FAQ on the internet somewhere that says how to do the conversion in one weekend and one paycheck, LOL.

Yes, my idea of a cool ride is much different than normal. The concept is to build a street-legal GT-type car that I can race at the local Daytona and Sebring tracks on weekends. I'm not really building it for looks, dyno bragging rights, or even to be competitive in SPO. I just want to have some fun.

Yes, my car IS street legal in Florida. I already got stopped for no reason by the police when driving it with the old 13B, the cage, harnesses, etc. - no ticket! .

BTW, my car has the $2K+ suspension, LOL.

Talk to Peter Farrell at PFS. He has a 100-shot NOS on his drag car. Based on dyno testing with my car, he has stated publicly (MADS, 1999) that, with [essentially] the same setup, a 20B would produce 1000 hp with NOS and 900 without. His 13B-REW produces 700 with NOS and 600 without.

I'm working on it, but it may take two paychecks

Just be patient when doing your work. The easy part is to get the engine in the car. Like a couple other cars, mine is built for racing so in addition to having the normal fitting issues, I also had to address the additional demands that would be put on the car when racing.

well I am going to have to fabricate a lot of of the parts because there is no one that I know of (and I am really sure) that has put 20B in a corvair. fitting it is not a problem 'cause if you can fit a 396 or 400 c.i. V8 where the back seat used to be I am pretty sure a 20B will fit.

The hard part is making the custom motor mounts and other custom parts. I'll have to reverse the throttle to push the throttle bodies open. not to mention an entirly new fuel system. I'll have to change out the powerglide transaxle for the 4 speed manual and get 4.11 posi-trac diff. Install a cooling system ( a corvair has none) find a bell housing that will fit both the engine and the tranny. then it is time for mods to make it look good.
