Whats the issue with the spacer? are you having to shim up the passenger side of the engine? i only ask because im having a sagging problem with the pass side of my RE
/oftopic

Nice buildup, cannot wait to see it in action

Actually it was the drivers side that was too close and the oilpan was rubbing on the steering rack slightly. I have about 1/2" spacer under the Banzai mount and it seems to be clear enough.

Ok, so I've been slacking on posting and giving updates, but progress is still being made! Here are some pics, hope to fire it up this weekend! All wiring is complete, fuel system is complete, oil cooler lines complete, oil cooler is in, just a case of bolting up small misc pieces (radiator hoses, etc) and off we go! I'm hoping that these LS7 coils are going to be up to the task, they certainly fit nicely under the UIM.

Thanks to Rene (61620B) who built me this badass turbo manifold at a great price and even had it courier delivered to my office!

Well, I know I suck at posting and several months have gone by, but here's some updated pictures and status! Sorry for the bad quality, I only had my cameraphone on me.

I wasn't really thrilled with where the Banzai racing mounts placed the motor - alot of weight was over the steering rack and I was still having clearance issues with the oil pan. I had Matt over at Performance Solutions in Signal Hill, CA put together some different mounts which move the motor about 7" back in the car. As you can see here the motor now sits close to the stock 2-rotor position which is great!

Another shot from the underside of the car so you can get an idea of how well positioned the motor now is. The oilpan had to be modified and you can see the pickup tube is now external to the pan for a few inches and then renters at the front of what used to be the rear sump.

Here's the transmission mount. We had to modify the shift linkage to move it forward significantly. The shifter is now approximately 1/2" back from the stock location which is of course completely acceptable.

The AFCO radiator bottom mounts. The amount of space between the engine and the radiator is great and now allows me to use my favorite electric fan (the Ford Taurus fan which moves ~4800 CFM). With the old mounts in place it was impossible to fit a fan that big (at least with the radiator in the stock position) and I wasn't happy with the CFM rating of the slimline fan I had in place before.

Final shot of the engine bay. You can really see how far back and down the engine has come as a result of the new mounting and modification (it sits about 3" lower than previously). I should have the car back from fabrication just after thanksgiving and will be firing it up very shortly after!

Nice job.
Those Banzai mounts must have been whack.
I originally used the K2RD mounts and was only able to move the engine back from that position a hair over 6" and down just under 2" iirc.
My engine looks like it sits exactly where your does.

Looking forward to more pics and updates.

Wasn't this car on E-bay a little while ago? I don't recall it selling. Are you the original owner? Or did you just pick it up?

car look sgood I'm glad you moved the engine back further it should be quite a bit better for road racing as far as chassis balance goes. I'm imagining the drive shaft will be significantly shortened as well which will make it last longer and reduce the loss through flexing and wobbling that a drive shaft does. Good job!

Just for information -- the 20B engine and transmission mounts, and the crossmember mods to lower the steering rack were all done at and by Mazdatrix. These were all for a 20B 2nd gen drift project that did not happen (turbo 20B now going into 3rd gen Time Attack car at Mazdatrix).

The 2nd gen 20B placement was done specifically so the fiewall did not have to be modified. The mounts and crossmember were recently removed from the drift project car, and sold to "the tech" then installed in his project by Performance Solutions.

MODRIFT7: Oh, I thought Matt made this entire setup in the first place so gave him all the credit! Thanks for the clarification (is that you Kyle?).

Re: the oil filter, it actually fits but the firewall had to be 'massaged' a little bit. Not planning on relocating it unless I have to.

It's going well, recently tried to fire it up and although it started was only running on two rotors (sounds good to say that!). After doing compression tests and others it turns out that there was no compression on the middle rotor.

The engine was removed and taken apart - turns out the middle rotor had some carbon lock and otherwise everything is ok. Doing a large street port, new springs and seals throughout, and putting it all back together. ETA is this week and I hope to be on the dyno next week as everything else is finished and ready to rock!

Horizontal type Oil cooler mounting:
Originally for SA/FB Race cars but the same still applies, no?

I plan on running my oil cooler horizontally.
