so what would be the benefits of the setup you ran?

From my understanding the stock coils are better than the aftermarket options.

The benefit was that it was a relatively cheap, simple system with very few parts involved to diagnose when problems occur. Now I have to add 2 amps into the equation with all the associated wiring which will make my life more miserable in the diagnosis process if/when things go wrong...

Those DIS4 boxes are nice. I ran one for a while. I assume that you will be running no split then? Those boxes only have 4 channels of output

I'll be running split; I bought two of them! 1 is in the box, 1 is out in the pic.

After some delay, should be re-firing the car, testing the ignition and new fuel system this weekend with a plan to dyno in the following days after!

We have ignition!!! After rebuilding the motor again (don't ask) and installing the MSD ignition we got the motor back in the car and fired her up today. Started instantly and sounded glorious!!!

I'm installing a surge tank/baffle inside my fuel cell as soon as it arrives and switching from 2 Walbro pumps to a single Aeromotive A1000. I'm hoping the tank will be here on Monday and I can install it on Monday night which would allow for a dyno maybe on Wednesday or there abouts. Just some small miscellaneous stuff remains like installing boost controller, finishing up the brake ducts, etc.

Well, pseudo successful dyno session.

1) The MSD DIS-4 settings/rev-limit situation is totally absurd. If you leave it in CPC (coil per cylinder) mode, ie. the mode it SHOULD be in for direct fire, the rev limiter arbitrarily comes on at 6750rpm regardless of what you set it to (in my case, 13,900rpm because I wanted the Haltech to control the rev limit). Only after much failure, shouting, and general annoyance did I randomly switch it to Waste Spark mode, which somehow sets the rev limit correctly. An MSD tech confirms this on the support forum which really blows my mind.

EDIT:

So you need to setup the DIS-4 in wastespark mode. When in direct fire mode on a rotary application the DIS-4 is thinking you are spinning twice the revs you really are and thus you get a rev limiter at half of what it's supposed to be. Set dial #1 at 1 and you should be good to go.
2) The closed loop boost control setup on the E11v2 SUCKS!! We tried using the Haltech boost control solenoid but it exhibited the most random behavior and we ended up failing miserably on controlling boost so could only go to 11-12psi off the wastegate spring.

3) Randomly for about 15 minutes the car wouldn't start after we had spent about 2 hours trying to fix the boost controller. We gave up at that point and then after we had loaded the car on the trailer, it of course fired up fine. I think it may have been a little flooded but not entirely sure. Runs fine now though.

4) At 12psi we did manage to put down 510rwhp and 404rwtq taking it to 8000rpm. The timing was still very conservative at the top end as we never got enough time to refine it due to messing with the boost controller or the stupid rev limiter on the MSD boxes. I figure at ~18psi we should crack 600rwhp pretty easily which was the goal!

All in all not a complete failure, but pretty frustrating nevertheless. On top of all that for some reason none of the about 30 minutes of footage I recorded actually recorded!! Will have a dyno sheet scanned in some time later. Thanks to Fris & Tony from Lucky 7 Racing and Nelson for the hard work and a long day!

That's some good numbers given your situation, and you should pat yourself on the back!

You only took 9 months from your first post to the last which you even broke the 500 mark.
I think this is quite an accomplishment!
Congrads!

Thank you sir! Kind of frustrating to spend 7 hours on the dyno and have those little problems, but I guess that's partly what the dyno is for

Those MSD DIS-4 Plus boxes are nothing but trouble. Had those on my previous 13B Turbo setup and the problems you had are exactly what I experienced. Expect those ******* things to shut down on you for 15 minutes while driving it.

If I were you, rip those out and sell them. They overheat too easily. Fine a better solution. LS6 coils?

Ignition breakup and misfire was completely random too. Always happened at around 6,000 RPM. Some days it was fine, some days it was horrible.

Hell, I thought I was the only one with this problem 4 years ago!

Damn I'm glad I saw this post as I was about to purchase one of those boxes for leading plugs only. Any recommendations for my 20b set-up? I'll be running the Fd front cover and MSD SS blaster coils.

Interesting, thanks for posting. Unfortunately the LS2/7 coils are what I was using previously and they failed miserably. I believe the LS6 are the same coils as the LS1, which people also seem to have trouble with at these power levels. At this point I'm not sure what else there is to try, although I know they've revised the DIS-4 since you used it 4 years ago.

I've only grounded the boxes to the body right now which may have something to do with it; I'm going to ground them to the engine/battery and see if that helps.

I don't understand why people don't use the stock coil packs? The FD coils seem to work fine for guys putting down 500HP on 2 rotors.

I think the LS1 coils are probably fine upto about that number too. I'd expect that my setup when fully tuned (target is Tuesday next week) will be over 600rwhp which seems to be beyond the LS1 coils. Not sure about the stock coils, but don't know of many people making those numbers on 2 rotors period.
